Glow plug light flashing

My 2003 MY 110 SE TDi has just started flashing the glow plug light at me. On start up the light goes out after a few seconds as expected, I start the car and the light stays out for probably 30 seconds or so. After this the light starts to flash. It continues to flash during driving. The car is running perfectly normally and there are no other lights on on the dashboard. Any idea what might cause this? My MK4 Golf Haynes manual just says take it to a dealer.

Am I likely to cause any damage driving the car like this?

is it on the Leons and golfs that this could mean a blown brake bulb i think.... worth a check.

In this instance it turned out to be the fuse for the brake lights had blown. Changed the fuse and all is well again.

Interesting that neither the owners or Haynes manuals mention that this is a possibiity!!
