Hi everyone just asking the question but when I give it the big willy down a straight road and check the turbo it's glowing even after about doing two or three 300 meter lengths
Is this normal ? Cheers

To get the turbo glowing bright red , you must be beating the daylights out if it. Gets hot a breaks . Not saying it will break every time you do it , but it will give way.
I did it !! Driving like a complete knob didn't do it any favours. Learnt the hard way , and now treat it more nicely . Nothing is indestructible .

I think what most people see glowing is not the turbo itself bit probably the exhaust manifold
These are very easy to get hot and glow especially on these cars when they are modified as they are a bottle neck in the system
Take it on a trackdaythen you'll see it properly glow, mine does even on an OE map

If your cars running lean the exhaust gasses will be hotter and can also contribute to this. Our turbos used to glow all the time when running big boost. I had a temperature gauge in my manifold and it used to be at 700 degrees and used to climb a lot higher when spanked on the track or rolling road.

My old 1905 big American block escort turbo running cams, vernier pulleys, s1 air cooled hybrid turbo, 2 stage switchable boost running 12-23psi was on a rolling day and I was suffering from traction loss so a few of us jumped on the front after around 3-4 runs and my turbo was glowing that much the turbo blades was visible on tick over slowly turning.....it was amazing to watch but scary..... I was worried but they said the turbo will do this under extreme pressure and is quite normal on the rollers... I was just glad it's under the bonnet and you couldn't see it lol......
Good day though was just shy of 300hp

Lol I wish I did. All ill say is I used to thrash that car. Had serious turbo issues where I was told I had basically cooked it. He explained I had cracked the casing through heat. Even showed me a crack in the casement. If I was just unlucky then that's my luck all over , if not ( and it does make sence ) , surely it glowing hot can cause damage over time.
I ain't a mechanic , but does that not make sence ? If I am wrong then what the hell did I do to mine ?

Your turbo glows red already, just a spirited drive up a hill will do it especially as your mapped, maybe the cracked turbo was a coolant failure or switching off the engine too soon/ not warming it up?

Agreed.... Switching off engine without leaving it to cool will not help....
