Golf VR6 Brakes

I have been looking at buying bigger brakes for my 1.4 dab as the 256mm on it are not the sharpest. I wanted to originally upgrade to the fr brakes but found out that i would have to buy new hubs which are near enough £200 and also that the fr brakes arent great anyway.

I know that the mk3 golf has the same stud pattern etc as the mk4 ibiza and an opportunity has arose for a set of vr6 brakes complete with hubs, disc, callipers and carriers.

Im not that technically minded so anyone got any ideas if they will fit?

i know of some1 fitting golf vr6 brakes to an arosa atm,

though i dont know of the work involved

that confuses matters more as i thought the arosa was a 4x100?

Anyone else tried to fit these or similar to our ibiza's?

i mite be selling my old 288mm brake set up, callipers carriers off a ibiza tdi sport soon??? if u want them let me know.and i mite b able to get u some disks for them brand new very cheap aswell.

The problem is that whichever brakes you decide to fit, as I understand it the existing carriers are part of the hub so you will require a new hub before you can upgrade

Cheers Gus, but as Leigh said I need to get new hubs for my model which retail at £95 each. Ive searched ebay etc for ages but still no joy , if i do find any though i will give you a pm.

The reason I was looking at the vr6 brakes was because they came with hubs and also include the 288mm discs, carriers and calipers. I can get them relatively inexpensively, but i dont want to make a ****-up and find they dont fit!

The hubs are only £95 each if you go to the stealers... Just found this being broken on ebay... message them and ask how much for front hubs, almost definate that it'll be cheaper than stealers!

i was watching them on my ebay, now everyone on the forum will be bidding on them, thanks anyway!

I phoned the scrapyard off the link you gave me bertrum, but they had sold them already unfortunately.

On the topic of the cupra brakes, does anyone know if you would have to inform the insurance? As essentially you are just replacing a factory fit part with another. I know you dont have to declare alloy wheels but i wonder if its the same with brakes etc?

Those cupra brakes are in nottingham fella so if you need any help with them, give us a shout!

Not certain about insurance, but I would atleast ask their opinion. Stress that it is not a brake conversion but uprated OE parts.

Yes you will need to tell the vulche, err, insurance company as they will take any opportunity to not pay out and although it's quite probable that if they send out an assessor he won't be closely familiar with the Ibiza if it's spotted they will invalidate your insurance and leave you with a big bill and facing prosecution for driving whilst uninsured.
