I have to say, I really, really like the Megane! In fact (sorry about this...) I was going into the Renault dealer to see if they had any Megane 225's in when I found my LCR.

Very accomplished car that handles well, drives nicely (in terms of comfort and feedback), is a tad faster than a standard LCR and is very well equipped. Plus, unlike many other cars, it's got a bit of character about it.

The newer special versions, such as the one in Backwoods link, add all sorts of nice extras that would be nice to have, such as an LSD and carbon Recaros :)

don't think they are quicker than a standard lcr. i had bit of go with one the other nite, i was just edging past him, and before anyone says anything - he was definatley trying!! lol. could be wrong though . . . . .

You're right about Renaults sportier models having character especially the special editions but the depreciation will be pretty harsh I'd have thought?

Also the build quailty and longevity of many Renaults still isn't that good... certainly in my experience. Hopefully this'd be better on a Sp Ed.

some of you must have far too much money!!

it all depends what you want from a car...why not an e46 M3..good power and second hand ones are becoming quite cheap, or the alternative RS4 as was mentioned above.

If i had that money to spend, i would look for a Audi S3, something along the lines of that. but mind i wouldnt buy brand new, pre-reg or ex demo, the saving you make is worth it in my opinion. But the only downside to this is, if you already have a LCR you arent gaining a great deal, same power, almost the same car underneath [apart from it being quattro].

Unfortunately they are quicker. Not a massive amount, but with equal drivers they have the ability to take a small lead over an LCR.

Incidentally, I dropped my LCR off at Renault this morning as it's having some paint work done (it came from a Renault dealer) and had a poke around the special edition 225 we were talking about. Those carbon Recaros are pure sex! They are stunning. If there was any way of fitting them to an LCR and I could get some for a good price, I would do without a doubt! Stunning!

A good friend of the family has just taken delivery of a stunning black VXR Monaro. I was treated to a trip out in it on Boxing day and OMG it's fast! However, it lacks the excitement I was hoping for and the noise is somewhat disappointing. Even the owner himself says the noise is far too tame, but a quick trip to an exhaust fabricator should remedy that!

It's a big car too, bigger than I expected. Inside the seats are very comfortable and very armchair like. Loads of space, not badly built, comfortable, silly quick and with an amazing turn of pace, but just missing that excitement factor I had expected (high expectations perhaps...?). That might be different from the drivers seat though I guess!

(edit) Oh, if you are looking for practicality, this might not be ideal as the boot space is pathetic!

Overall, I'd have one in an instant!

Do you own an Oil Refinery :) ;)

Not quite :) Just don't have to do any commuting in my car so it's pleaseure miles all the way.

If it's out and out excitement you want get a VXR and get it supercharged like the run-out VXR500s are fitted with from the factory.

I think after a turbo charged car of any sort most NA cars struggle to excite, certainly on the power delivery stakes...

I reckon the lack of excitement factor you mention in the Monaro is because, if you think about it, you've probably only ever seen them on Top Gear going sideways, or blasting round a beach hehe :)

I quite fancy a spin in one of the 100 Ltd Edt VXR 500, 500bhp Supercharged ones that were a grand cheaper than the normal ones, I bet they're 'interesting'.

I didn't know they were a grand cheaper! The salesman told the friend of mine who bought the VXR that they were more expensive. He also told him that the supercharger whine is seriously intruding and ruins the experience a bit :(

I think the lack of excitement was more to do with being used to the kick of the turbo than a strong but consistent pull of a big N/A car. The power was strong but so smooth that there was no real shove just a constant force.
