Got the horn...

Part of my horn has broken - I've only got one of the snails as opposed to the usual two. I've looked around and it sounds like the OEM Leon horn isn't the most reliable, and breakers are selling replacements for as much as I can get a brand new aftermarket horn, so am thinking about going down that route.

Two questions though - if I get an aftermarket one, remembering that I know nothing about car electrics, how easy will it be to install it? Would I need to mount them in a different position? Is this difficult?

Second question is what would people recommend? I feel like I've narrowed it down to Ring Low/High or a Hella Supertone, but I'm finding the Hella ones harder to find in the UK.

Any advice either way would be great.

You could just order them from euro car parts or any car parts company and should be straight plug in and mount make sure they ask for your reg

I've got an old Maserati air horn bought in a charity shop of all places (sold as a "starter motor"?!).
I'm still waiting for the standard ones to give me an excuse to fit it.

Or some Series 2 land rover horns, but as they are each the size of babies heads, there might not be the room. (they need to be oiled periodically too!).

I've found some on Euros and would just have to find out if it's the high or low tone that's missing from my car. Now I've seen what the Hella ones look like though, I'm feeling pulled towards them...

Oof... Those do look nice.

Where did you get them from and how easy were they to wire in and fit? They're obviously well away from the usual location and I'm guessing needed some wiring?

Bought couple of years back when mine died.
Yeah extended wiring.
Think I found them on EBay actually.
They may have to move if I do the brake cooling ducts.

That didn’t work.
Yeah off eBay I believe. Was a while back.
Extend wiring yes.
Sound brilliant. Make pedestrians jump.
They may need moving if I do the brake cooling ducts.

I've seen a few on eBay but can't work out if they're genuine or not. Even the more expensive ones I can't be absolutely sure of. Do you remember how much you paid for yours?

That was a fail. Was back in 2018
I was worried that they weren’t genuine when ordering too. As mine didn’t have the hella logo front top. If I recall correctly.
There is a product number.
There are dodgy out there.

Wrong colour screws etc.

And then there’s real versions

Try the HellaSuperstore
I think that’s it’s name. Have used and new for sale.
Or hella main website and copy the codes of the version you want.

Yep - that's been the main problem - you find one at a decent enough price, but the eBay listing brands it as 'Stark Sound' or something like that, but on the details they have it branded as Hella.

You'd think it would be easier to get a brand like Hella in the UK, but I'm drawing a blank unless I'm looking at a site where I'm not sure if it's genuine.

I have pairs of standard horns with loom available if you're still after some?

That'd be awesome actually. I'll drop you a DM.

Will still be on the lookout for aftermarket ones, but right now, having a working horn is the biggest priority.
