I've stayed in this hotel before (aug 07), quite nice, rooms are a bit dated and could do with a re-furb.

They do have a car park though - some of the spaces are quite big too, cost about £30 to park there though.

that would be 30 a day i suppose:)cry:)?so from what i see so far(from daniel also) no3 would be the best option...so far!

ok guys we are ready!!the route is:bari-como,como-lugano-strasbourg-luxembourg,luxembourg-bruxelles-brugge-calais-dover-london,london-paris,paris-ancona!!now a couple of final questions:1)if moving in highways mainly(almost allways) is there going to be a need for snow chains?i will have the autosock's with me,are they any good?2)closing to dover the day i will start from luxembourg, where can i find information about the weather (on route)so i will have to choose between ferrys and the eurotunnel?if the weather is bad at the english channel how rough will the journey be on the ferrys?(my wife is getting seasick easily:))which do you recommend?(i heard the eurotunnel was closed for 4 hours in august due to electrical problems!).which ferry company you recommend and how can i book them if it is necessary? 3)any other last minute advise!?!cheers!:D:D

if you were crossing dover-calais today your wife would be ill...

www.ferrysavers.co.uk for ferries

Eurotunnel is a lot dearer normally - but I prefer it if I've got a lot of driving to do.

Consider Portsmouth-Le Harve for ferries - we've crossed there for under £100 before - then you get to take some scenic routes across the south of england

So you are not coming up to Gods country now?

unfortunaly no!!the weather right now i think is not ideal for this trip, and the extra day in paris is something my wife really appreciated...all of my friends though who have been to scotland were really enthusiastic about "gods country"!!i really-really wish i had more days...(ps:what about speedferries mork?)

Speedferries run Trimaran's

I took one to Ireland a few years ago & felt every bump. I sat outside for the whole 2hrs downstream of the diesel fumes (it was that or throw up inside)

I'd go on a regular ferry

Have a good trip.

As a few others have said i would stay outside town and get a train in (much easier) Just as an example somewhere like Waltham Abbey or Brentwood in Essex. Reasonable hotels in Brentwood Trust House Forte is ok and not that pricey. Easy to get to London from there about 30mins by train to Liverpool St and tube.

Rob

ps I use Eurotunnel every year to go to Austria skiiing and is the best bet IMO. Main roads are usually snow/ice free even in winter in Austria but avoid the high mountain roads. :) take care

I'd recommend a GPS of some form. A lot of them can be very handy when travelling as you can point it to your closest Hotel, Services etc. We use an old TomTom 300 when travelling like that and it does the trick.

Also means when out of town you can find a hotel that won't have high rate premiums. They tend to point you to somewhere decent (Travelodge etc)! :)
