I purchased a Green Replacement Element for my car;

This is what i ordered:

Part Number: R110261
SEAT IBIZA 2 1,4L i multipoint Ø 50mm 60hp (96>) - Standard Replacement Filter.

So it is the right one for my car as mine is a 1998 1.4 8v.

I received it yesterday and i opened the box and its oval,not circular.

Is that right?? Should it be oval??

Im probably thinking that it should be circular because the airbox is circular.

That had never even crossed my mind. It might go more circular once its out the box and into the car's airbox. It will be much better than the rubbish 'paper' filter.

I put a k&n one in my 1.4. Not sure if it was just in my head but it felt alot more responsive. Especially on the motorway!

That sounds encouraging. My 1.4 is already more responsive since i put my 20v T exhaust on. I think this is because of the larger diameter pipe from cat back. Hope its alittle more responsive when i put the green filter in.
 
Right folks, fitted the air filter today and it was abit of a b****** of a job. What with my strut brace and getting the top back on the airbox.

I had to put the filter round the lid of the airbox then put the lid on top of the housing. I got the lid on correctly, so should the filter be sitting right in the inside of the box??

Also i found this yellowish/white-ish gunk at the top of the breather pipe and in the bit of the airbox where the breather pipe connects to. What will this be??

I dont think its the start of gasket failure as all engine temps are fine when running. There are no signs of water in the oil and the engine coolant is fine.

The white gunk will be where water got on it.

The air filter housing on my old 1.4 the seal on the nut at the top was shot to pieces so let some water in if it got on it.. Could be that? x

Think thats what it must be then. Ive looked for all of the signs of headgasket failure and there are no signs of it so it must be that.

also if not what hayz mentioned then do u drive mainly short journeys in town? i was getting this with my 1.4 and realised when i put on my k&n and breather ...tried a few motorway miles and it soon cleared up.

I dont do that much short town journeys. I drive 20miles to work and 20 miles back. So i dont know if that will have cause a bit of the buildup.

The filter must be sitting alright cos i was out in the car this morning and it is running fine and everything is alright.
