grinding noises

Hi,

My X reg ibiza 1.4 is giving me grief. When driving, particularly in 4th, whenever I take my foot off the accelerator a rough whirring growl is audible . Its being happening on and off for a while, but today it got really bad the problem occurred in other gears, particularly second, with additional squealing and grinding noises. Gears also became stiff and had difficulty getting it in first.

Suggestions on what it is, or things i can do to diagnose would be a great help.

sounds like your gear box is on the way out or theres a problem with your thrust release bearing

it could be the sinkro in the gear box has it helps select the gears between changing / get a secondhand box not worth the hassle to change

definately gearbox. by the time i finished with my 1.4.. i went through 3 gearboxes lol

got one supplied second hand and fittedall for £120

also, dont drive it too much. mine seized in gear and i had to get the RAC!

Thats the main gearbox bearings mate. Best off getting a 2nd hand one from a breakers as it'l be alot cheaper than getting them replaced. I went through 3 on my 1.4 from the same thing
