Not if you have hills everywhere.

Winter tyres are awesome, and worth it even if we don't get snow - it's far from a waste of money when they'll last a good 2-3 years of winters. You can't put a price on the fact that you won't get stuck, anywhere.

You might be pleasantly surprised with the Vredesteins, mine are on their third year and this is how warn they are when I fitted them in December:

Hmm, interesting - I measured the depth post 1000 miles on mine and it was a smidgen below 8mm, so signs are promising.
 
Haddock, myself & a few others simply cannot avoid hills to get to where we want to go.

Winter tyres are the only way forward (excuse the pun) not only in the snow, but for cold temps in the winter time.
