Quick update,

Things have moved on slightly since I was last here.

Pistons, rods etc are still en-route and will be slightly lower compression ratio to allow for a little extra timing and extra bhp on the top end.

Moved to a THS intercooler (lovely piece of kit with a larger core than the S3 and even the APR intercooler.

All the other stuff is here, so it should be done within the month.

What pistons and rods are you going for? I thought the pistons were fairly hefty on the K04 engines?

Who is fitting all the kit for you?

Arias pistons and Pauter rods. The Pistons aren't too bad on the K04'd engines, but I want to make sure everything is okay for my own piece of mind and in case I do something silly like go for a GT3076 kit:blink:

i thought the THS was same size as the APR cooler? wont you get more lag with a bigger cooler? more dispacement to fill?

Yes, I've now been told that the THS is the same size and has similar flow characteristics than the APR cooler. The THS offering is flowing over 480g/s which equates to a power handling capacity of around 600bhp. It is also around half the price of an APR cooler. There haven't been any results that I've seen where the APR cooler has increased lag at all. The THS intercooler on a K04 is showing very good results so far. It is better than my current set-up of the ED30 cooler and the Forge cooler. If I went to an S3 cooler and Forge cooler I would be more worried about pipework restrictions and flow capability than the increased volume of the THS cooler. With what is out there in the market at the moment, the only real options available are the THS or APR coolers or an air/water charge cooler and even the charge cooler hasn't been put on a GTI yet.

Just had an e-mail from Ollie at THS and he has confirmed that the intercooler was designed to cope with up to 550bhp without adversely affecting turbo lag[B)]

That explains it a bit , perhaps i was looking at it from a standard or mildly tuned car and not at the 200 + stallions over normal you will be running :)
