Haven't checked the Leon's kit, but the Ibiza's come with a little tool for removing the centre caps - its like a little loop of wire with a hook on the end that locates in the hole in the edge of the centre cap so you can pull it off -

Just had a look in the boot - and there is a screwdriver lol - didn't notice it yesterday !!!

No sign of a spanner or centre cap removing tool though ?

I'm sure a nice FR owner will check sometime today :D

Another pic - red line showing extent of tyre blowout

Yes there is a screwdriver in with the gubbins in the spare wheel and I use that to pull the centre cap off although it's not ideal. Just poke it in the hole provided and give it a good tug ;)

Like Leigh15 my Ibiza came with the wire hook. It works but the cover bends alarmingly before it pops off. Does that mean we Ibiza owners have something that you Leon chaps don't? That's a first.:)

I've seen my old man's mk1 Golf last 10+ years on original tyres before needing replacing - and not from a failure like that.

Lucky not to be a failure like that TBH. Visual inspection doesn't really apply to the fatigue of tyres due to age. It won't neccaserily be something obvious, or external that may cause failure.

A tyre lasting 10 years is luck, not judgement.

Thats pretty bad.. glad your ok!!

Im guessing it could have been a puncture to start with but then as you didnt notice and carried on driving it might have ripped through and made it that bad ?

dunno lol

You not got a toolkit in your boot, LCR comes with a spanner, screwdriver (double ended), locking wheel nut key and wheel brace, not to mention a full size 18" spare!

Sorry if this seems like a brag kinda thing, its not, just my mk4 gti had all that minus the alloy spare - full size just steel, just thot all vag cars had it, infact, my little polo mk4 even had a tool kit too!

i have a FR petrol, and i have a full tool kit with a full size steely:confused:

Have you thought about Nitrogen in your Tires?

Due to air leaking out quicker than nitrogen, i've been putting nitrogen in my tires for a few years now.

Keeps the tire inflated at the correct pressure for longer.

The Spiel

Tires that are not properly inflated have a higher rolling resistance and make a car's engine work harder, burning more fuel and polluting more. Here is a tip to make keeping your tires are the proper pressure easier: Nitrogen! "The science is simple: Nitrogen molecules are bigger than air molecules, so they leak out more slowly and tires stay inflated longer. This inert gas, which makes up 78 percent of the atmosphere, has been used for years to inflate high-performance tires on race cars, military vehicles, giant earth-moving equipment, even the space shuttle.

Nitrogen leaks out of tires about 30 percent to 40 percent slower than air, according to Ingersol-Rand Co., which makes nitrogen inflation systems. And it doesn't hurt anything to pump regular air into your nitrogen-filled tire.

blimey Chris glad your ok matey! I would send that picture to the manufacturer with a strong letter. I wouldnt expect a tyre to "sheer" like that!
