Had my Leon FR 3 weeks - Someone has done in the Passenger door!

Hello guys,

As per the title, only owned my new FR 3 weeks and over the weekend, the passenger door has suffered damage. :Furious:

There's a big scrape, that looks consistent with someone kicking their heel or foot into the side of the door. Large collection of scrapes in one area!

The only place my car was parked at the weekend was at a Homebase carpark for about 20 minutes while I was inside - I even parked out of the way in the corner!

I've contacted the store this morning, but they state their security cameras don't cover the car park!

I often think its just more hastle than its worth owning a nice new/sporty looking car, as you are always thinking of just this type of thing happening when leaving it anywhere!

Perhaps I should just sell it and buy a banger that I wouldnt give a chit about leaving parked up in a public car park for any length of time - as least it would gain less attention.

I'm left fuming and gutted!

Oh dear, sorry to hear that. :(

Does your insurance cover vandalism damage without affecting your NCD? I know Direct Line offer such policies nowadays, so it's worth a try, even if you end up paying a small excess.

That is Fu##ing awful mate. Dirt scum bag. Had the same thing happen to my evo. Had it parked in my apt car park, came down to find every pannel keyed. Needed full respray at my cost. Over £3k. not nice. Lets hope you got decent insurance

I used to get people doing things to mine quite a lot, particularly up in Lancaster. The girlfriend was a student there and I used to stay over some times. If I parked it anywhere on the road where the scruffy ****in student *******s were walking past on their way home from the £1 drinks shithole then you could almost guarantee I'd come down in the morning to find something throw all over it (be it food, drinks, fags...), wipers put up, paintwork scratched etc etc... In the end I got so sick of it that I now park it straight opposite the police station up there. It's a bit further to walk but worth it - it's not been touched since!

It's just people being jealous. They see a car that stands out a bit (even more so being yellow and a private plate lol!) and think it's funny, not caring that paint damage can cost hundreds (and maybe even thousands!) to repair!!! :(

Thankyou all for your positive feedback.

Regarding Insurance, haven't gone down that route yet, however I'd rather pay to have the repairs done out of my own pocket, if it turns out to be the easy, no hastle route (dont want to make a claim if I can help it).

Re above statement by /dev/null , its very true, for whatever reason these 5cum find it amusing to vandalise someone else's property - tbh, they really dont care how much it costs to put the damage right - as you state, it's also jealousy.

I was once at a dealers, and they had a car in that had been keyed almost on every panel!
The staff were saying the vehicle was a write-off, as it would cost too much, as it would basically require a full respray to put right !

I have a £150 K reg cavalier for "day to day" use because of this very reason.

I couldn't bring my car to work and not worry about it.

I'm a Systems Analyst for a company, mainly specialising in the Oracle database (and surrounding areas). I do use Linux though at home (he says writing from his laptop running windows, lol!). I've used the name /dev/null for years now, lol - it originally came from having my bluetooth name set to it which was kind of a unix-geeky joke! (What's the point of ever sending anything to it?!) :)

I got my 57 FR keyed when I was filming at a charity to help poor families.

So I was there filming to help them get more support and one of the skank's living there saw the car I was driving and keyed it. Jealous c*nts.

Totally sympathise with you mate. I came on here to vent my anger as I've just found a deep scratch all along my front and rear passenger doors. Gutted, and my FR is black so looks even worse.

I can't understand the mentallity of these *******s at all, I hope karma does exist. [:@]

Does anyone know whether a deep scratch (you can feel depth in it and is white all along) would be able to be done by a 'chips away' sort of bloke or would it most likely need a proper body shop with an oven? I know this is obviously very difficult to tell without seeing it but wondered if anyone might know from experience.

It's sad to hear so many [other] examples of cars getting keyed / vandalised also!! :(

Towers - sorry to hear you've just had your car damaged as well! [:@]
I've only heard if its deep enough that you feel the ridge as you run your fingernail over it, then it cant be touched up or polished, it might need to be sprayed. Best get your car to a bodyshop for their professional opinion? :(

Really does make you wonder why you put so much money, time & effort into our rides, only for all the hard work to be ruined by a bit of jealousy!

For a while I thought the ideal scenario would be a cheap car as a runaround for work, then my "toy"/weekend ride would be a fast Sports (motor) Bike.

But this idea was blown apart by my wife on 2 counts - 1) the runaround would start breaking down and costing MORE money 2) I'd end up killing myself on the Bike! (I might agree with the latter). :)

So I went back on my morals and bought the Leon FR as the "all-rounder" !

Cheers bizzaboy,

My dad's friend runs a haulage company which has it's own garage with ovens etc so he's going to speak to him tonight about getting it done there as a favour with discount.

As you say, the problem is jealous scum feel the need to take out their inadequencies on other peoples property because they never had the back bone to earn such things in life.
/rant.

If it's any consellation i've had it nearly a year and haven't had any other incidents so hopefully you won't have any more vandalism in future.

Hope the repair goes well and isn't to costly.

You all have my sympathy.
I used to worry every night about my car parked in the centre of so called "genteel" Harrogate, full of idle offspring of the rich with no respect nor idea of monetary value, particularly with 3 pints of lager onboard. I eventually moved house, mainly because of this problem.

The best one was to come out one morning to find a 36 x 12 inch lawn turf on the bonnet :wtf:
This was quite embarrasing to remove in the busy town centre on a Saturday morning, also had several "keying" events and scrapes from bad parking by others.

My main vandal memory has to be a Morrison's car wash which completely ripped the factory fitted standard spoiler off an MG ZR I had at the time, the girl in the queue
behind was covering her eyes with her hands in horror at the time although getting her details revealed a very nice pair of "bumpers".
Although this got paid for eventually it was still logged as a "no blame" claim which gave me problems in shopping around for insurance for several years afterwards.
