I have seen a test before with Halfords own brand and it was highly rated from what I can remember. I have used it before in my old Corsa 1.8 without any issues.

Quantum Gold can't say anythin bad about it!
halfords, don't know, never used it and don't know of anyone on here using it!
The Quantum Synta Gold stuffs good, thats what i use.

Having read all that stuff about hydrocracked mineral oil, being called synthetic, it's got me wondering, and Tbh, if these so called fully synthetic oils are in fact just that ????

I must admitt i was once told by a very well known engine builder & turbo cossie specialist that they only ever run their 500bhp cossies on semi Sythn, as it's good enough, no need to go to the expense of fully sythen.

Since then I've only ever run my cars and bikes on semi sythetic oil, also its considerably cheaper than a lot of "so called" fully sythetic oil.

It would be interesting to find out what oil Seat recommend if it's a proper fully sythentetic or semi sythen or mineral oil.

i have been reading up on this today incidentally and apparently the standard oil seat use is quantum syntha/synta(?) with the gold being fully synth and silver semi synth. by all accounts some stealers use the semi synth when they should use gold (presumably to make more money).

i've always use castrol edge 5w-40 its up to vw spec.as for halfords oil its still new to the stores but upto vw/seat spec....otherwise i've got loads of shell helix plus 5w-40.every time i've had a service i've been given 1ltr free!

castrols a bit expensive £13.99 for a 1ltr bottle or £42.99 for a 4ltr bottle!!!

Hi I used to work in halfords about 5 6 years ago and i remember doing a course there with different sales reps one of whom was castrol rep who told me that the oil in the halfords can was identical to the oil in the castrol can as it was brought from them.;)

same goes for halfords oil and air filters. all used to be made by fram filters.
not saying its still the same after all these years but could be?

totally useless bit of info for you all to share down the local.:D

:lol:ps that was supposed to be 5 to 6 years not 56. im not that old!:D

No offense to anyone, but why spend a lot of money on a good car then throw cheap cr@p oil in it, might as well stick Asda or Tesco oil in their and really screw up your engine. Sorry but I cannot understand why people would do that.
