Decided to cancel the order, and tell the manager why. I'll fit the sodding thing myself - at least then i know its been done properly. Thats the problem with being lazy, it generally causes more work in the long run.

has anyone actually sadi WTF are you doing buying from halfrauds in the first place., they are so expensive 99% of the time, secondly why pay them to fit a stereo when most ICE suppliers/shops offer free fitting, then there are loads of us guys on here happy help.

Halfords are good for something - looking at stuff before you buy! Sorry to say that they are too expensive for me and thats why I dont use them even tho through work I can get 10% off and then a further 10% as I have numerous mates there and its still more expensive.

To back jonesya3, some halfords staff do know what they are on about, and most of them tend to (unfortunately) not be on audio at my local branch! A lot of the ppl in my local know their stuff, just most of the audio guys are muppets from what I can gather. A lot of the time they know less than they should which doesnt sound particually good when they come up against ppl like us who also know about cars.

As for the amp, as said before, it supplys power to teh OE amp at the base of the arial. I have a pioneer and didnt think twice about fitting it to mine as a friend (who just so happens to work at halfords) has a Passat which also needed one and sounded shocking on a similar HU without it. If ya happy without it then go for it, but I'd suggest getting one. £20 is well over the odds tho, I paid £10. I think Nexxia or someone does a set for everything inc the fascia, amp and loom for £25.

The ripspeed boys down my local branch had never heard of Seat Cordoba when I inquired for a set of pro race1 wheels and insisted vauxhall was the same  then they became ignorent when I corrected them.

Lol about the Cordoba, what muppets!

I can say there are at least 3 ppl in B'stoke Halfrauds that do know thier stuff, but try finding any of them when you're in and you'll prob find them hiding out the back having a cup of tea

As i said - free fitting and jan sale + i am lazy. I know i can find the same setup online for a bit less - i couldn't be bothered to wait for it and fit it. That'll teach me. I will cancel the order with Halfords and explain why to the manager - even if the little sod was 100% correct he was still rude as fcuk. Had a look on caraudiocentre.co.uk and they are offering the same unit for £35 cheaper.

Totally agree with chris the best thing to do is have alook at what radio you want and buy it somewhere else, halfords can be up to £200 or more dearer on some radio's than place's like the car audio center and some of the fitters cant even tie there own shoelaces never mind fit a radio.

But the lads in b'stoke are the same as us always drinking tea :p

There is some truth in what was said, however, not a lot. There are people running radios fine in skodas without boosters, BUT, if a stubby ariel is wanted, then a booster is generally needed.

From what i have read I would get a good enough signal to use the radio, but seemingly not a perfect one - i.e. i am likely to get radio one fine, but kerrang and other local stations will be more fizzely.

I have decided to cancel the order with halfords anyway - i have done my homework and can get the same model online for £40 less; however, this doesn't include the Alpine Ipod interface (KCA420i) - which is quite pricy. TBH i don't think i'll do much better than the Halfords sale price, but i don't want to give them my custom anymore.

I's a stroppy ba$tard, i know.

the reason they are putting it up to £600 is so they can do a "half price sale" and advertise it for £300, the law dictates that a item must actually be sold at the higher price for a a minimum of 28 days which, trust me is all halfords will do! I used to work for them as a ripspeed specialist, i now work for another south wales audio chain but the cardiff store i worked in was extremely well run and organised, but then i was a back in the day specialist, propperly trained and knew my products, unlike some of the stores that just took on any monkey for **** all money as they just needed staff asap.
