Have i a faulty brand new car?please help?

Please could somebody help me , on Friday i picked up my brand new Seat Leon sport , i drove home approximately 10 miles , parked up and closed door and locked using the key fob.
Anyway i walk into the house and within 30 seconds i could here a noise coming from outside , sounded like a plane was flying low , i opened the door only to realise it was my brand new leon's fan in overdrive , this lasted for approximately another 30 seconds , this has happened today too but a lot quiiter , but the fan still switched on after i turned the engine off and then after approx 30 seconds switched off.
Please tell me is this standard , i used to have 2 golf GTI's but never experienced this , anybody else had this happen or should i return the car immediately to the dealer.

It'll be the radiator fan. Nothing to worry about.

Personally, i've never heard it, even after a hard drive..

Certainly not once I've turned off the car.

Having said the above - i really should state..

don't these cars get ever so hot!!! Wow, left it running after a drive and went to the boot, the heat coming out the rear (not just where the exhaust exit is) is immense!!..

There is some serious heat produced, which could explain the fans .... but as i say, after the car is off, i've never heard any fans.

Are you sure it wasnt the pump which circulates the oil for a period after the engine is turned off?

re tams comment, off topic but! I put the FR over the pit yesterday to just have a wee look at my baby, its gorgus underneath, it was surprised how much reflective insulation there is, and how far the groove goes rught up into the body for the exhaust. the leon is as much a piece of artwork underneath as it is above. Should have taken a photograph or two..

I've often wondered why the fans never seem to stay on after I've driven it. I do let it cool down a bit on the last few miles of my journey (usually because i'm back into urban areas and have to go slow anyway)....but even if I'm going to be stopping in an NSL/motorway I try to ease off a fair bit if I've been booting it.

All I ever get is the high pitched whiney noise for 10-20 secs or so while the MFD is still on, which I think is the oil pump or whatever. Fans spin when the engine's running (that much I do know), but I've never ever had them continue (at least audibly, and thus haven't ever investigated the engine bay to see what it was) after the engine's stopped. Yet the car's been giving off substantial heat. Is this to let it cool down to the ambient temp slowly or something, or should my fans really be doing something when the air coming off the engine bay's like a hairdryer?

Everything you've said above is exactly the same for me too.

Either we both have faulty cars, or thats normal !

I find the heat stays with the engine for quite a while..

I also agree with driving easy for the last mile or so.. I think its good practice, I pop it into a high gear and keep the revs down the last few min of the journey. Getting as much air as pos through the engine whilst creating minimal extra heat.
