yup 6000k, 8000k starts getting too blue.
4000k looks good too but 6 is the best compromise in most people's opinions

6000K it is then. I will get them ordered on Sunday night. And I dont have any problems with them in the MOT because my MOT is thursday and I wont have them fitted by then.
Right hid's ordered. Next question, wheres the best place to put the ballasts in the engine bay?

i bolted mines just under the screen wash tank behind the battery
and next to the cam/rocker cover

Was that in you 1.4 or in your gti?? As I have a 1.4. I will have a look around the engine bay to see where I can secure them. There are a few possible places they could be secured.
On my drivers side there was a threaded hole below the light unit, which I found a matching bolt for and just attached it to that. On the passenger side, there is a slot below the light unit that I slid the ballast into and then secured. That's on a mk4 though, don't know how different it will be...

that was on my GTI Craig, aslong as they are bolted on they will be secure mate, they have been fine since i put them in february last year.
