Hi all,

I'm after a bit of advice and suggestions about replacing the stock stereo in my LCR. Seems to be a lot of choice for what I'm after but struggling to narrow it down to any particular unit or manufacturer.

Here are my requirments,

RDS
MP3/WMA
CD-R/CD-RW
Front Aux In
Red Illumination (So it matches the rest of the dash)
Random/Repeat (Would assume thats a standard feature but just in case)

SD Card reader would be a bonus but not essential.

I will be just replacing the stereo with the rest of the setup as standard so decent internal amplification would be a must.

I would be happy paying up to £200 if its worth it but obviously would prefer paying less! :D

Cheers!

Without trying to hijack his thread, Lee I can't find that anywhere on the Becker site. Saw one on ebay but I don't think it is in working condition. Suits the dash very well though, although my dash is the aluminium one.

How much was yours anyway if you don't mind me asking?

Was a nice becker for £200 in for sale.
If i didn't already buy mine i would have it, although mine as sat nav built into it, hence the parot i installed.

Some on ebay less than £200 on BIN

I saw your Becker model so actually I might just get it. The Becker that I found a price for was over £700 which would have been over a quarter of the cost I paid for the car! Need to go out and see if it will suit the aluminium dash though.

I think from previous threads you've posted on you're still using the standard speaker set up as well so thats good.

A few things though how well does the sat nav work? and I guess the face flips down or something to allow you to play cds? The parrot is obviously for calls but I cant see your Aux In, in the pics did you drill a hole?

Yeah standard speakers are fine.
Sat nav is very good, doesn't do full post code you get to input TQ12 5 then it asks you for the road.
I have just got the latest maps so unsure if that changes o if it's just up dated roads (can link you up if needed ;))
No hole needed enough room for it to drop down the back and out under the ashtray.I want mine in the glove box so need an extension (it's on it's way)
This is the ipod i bought to go with it http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200529806831
I paid £140 for mine, but i got a 7820 high speed

yes face flips down and is removeable (if needed)

Found a decent looking pioneer unit

dynamicsounds.co.uk/pioneer-deh3200ub-player-ipod-iphone-control-p-11251.html

Thinking usb may suit my needs better than SD now so liking the sound of this one, I think its very visualy attractive too!

Also any recommendations on a fascia to go with it?

£140 is a good price, but I'll have to spend a bit more to get it! Oh well!

Did you hook it up to the speedo at all?

Yes number 1 SCV is the signal for the sat ensure the wiring on the becker matches it, i had to make a loom so it swapped wires.
also make sure no wire connects number the k line number 3

 hmmmm! I'm usually not bad with tech but, if you haven't already guessed, I know nothing about car audio. I roughly know what a loom is but it all sounds a bit complicated to install. Was it?

I like the look of the pioneer he posted but imo its doesn't look as hot with that fascia off of ebay!

I won't lie, if you don't like electrics play safe and get the pioneer.

RE the fascia he never posted a picture of it fitted properly ;) pm him to ask for one I'm sure he'd oblige.

I need to do more posts before I can PM anyone unfortunately.

Ok. Its not that I don't like electrics I just wouldnt know what I was doing.

Does installing it require major knowledge of the car electrics or would it be something that I could do looking at the manual and maybe ask a few questions on here if I get stuck?

You've got me hooked on this Becker thats why and for the price sat nav, aux in, cd player, quality sound + OEM look seems a bargain even with a the effort I'd need to put in.

I'll help you if your keen :)
Just pm me or post back here.

Mine as the wiring on the top of the unit on a sticker and the standard is above.
I also got the manual with mine, and iirc they have them on ebay too.

Nail on the head with the Becker, why i went for one ;)

:) Great! Thanks Lee.

I just have to order it now, can't wait!

I'll let you know when it comes so I can get cracking. Hopefully I'll be able to pm you by then.

Hello mate, you can have a look at a Kenwood unit that I put in a couple of months back. Personally, I was after an OEM look but couldn't afford a Becker, and this was the next best thing I could find at the time. It doesnt have a front aux in but does have a rear USB, which you can route to a few places, and all the other criteria you mention except SD.

One big thing for me was the illumination, as most headunits Ive seen do red text on black background, and this has the option of black text on red background, so it matches the display of the climate control unit really well. Have a look at the pics in the link and see what you think. There are a number of more advanced units now, but they have proper colour screens which are a) more expensive and b) dont really match the interior so well.

Still wish I had a Becker, but happy with this unit for the OEM-ish looks, illumination and great ipod/USB connectivity. Anyway, have a look. If you want more info or pics then let me know.

EDIT - ooops should have read the whole thread, looks like you have one already - hope it works out well for you!
