well it depends what part is broken mate, you dont have to buy a whole new system, just depends how deeps your pockets are / you are willing to spend, if you think that as one part is broken then you might aswell buy the rest, then do it. If it's just the centre box then the rest doesnt need doing

So a cat back would not fix the catalysist then? but it would fix the centre silencer, is that correct guys?

best thing to do is have an exhaust place (not just some bloke in a garage) take a look & see if they can tell you exactly what's causing the rattle & which bit needs to be replaced. It could be the heat shield (mine was the heat shield fastened on the catalytic convertor), it might simply be a bit of exhaust sealant that's come off inside one of the joints & is rattling round in it, or it might be (as other's have said) something like baffling inside that's collapsed. Someone needs to properly investigate it, so you don't end up buying parts you don't need. Once you've got the right answer, then do some research to find the best place to get the part you need. Loads of exhaust centres will check your exhaust without charging you, but they'll want you to buy what they've got - tell them you'll have to sort summat when you can affaord it & get what you need somewhere cheaper.

most likely the heatshield that have a habit of coming undone - i welded mine back up as the stud had broke off

shield or not just watch parking in long dry grass ;)

the fuel pipes run in the chassis a good 300mm off to one side so no panic

the heat sheid stops the spread of heat not just for a paticular spot from getting hot
if you do away with it the metal directly behind where it was mounted will get hot and then the heat spreads across a larger area so its not just the area the heatshied is mounted you should worry about

Well after looking at the car on the ramp they have said that the heat shield is basically :censored:

They dont really want to remove it for my own safety and I will follow their advice on that (but appreciate everyones comments ;))

My question is, is it possible to buy a new heat shield? the garage said something about it not being possible to buy a heat sheild on its own?

He has said that he will try and do something with it like weld it down  suppose the gd news is that he has confirmed the cat etc is all ok :)

any decent garage could fabricate a new heat sheild if the original cant be saved.should think a few spot welds should sort it though

cant be doing with welding mine back up, is it just 'secured' by the 4 screws and studs coming through the floor or are there some mounting points at the top as well?

Tbh i'm tempted to just go out there with a pair of pliers and rip the thing off... the rattle is getting right on my nerves now, its been welded once already
