Heated & Folding Mirrors to Ibiza FR

Hi all,

I was lucky enough to persuade our fleet manager at work to get me the very last Ibiza FR that Seat had as a company car.

It recently went in for some warranty work (loose earth connection) and I was given a Sportrider courtesy car. The one thing that impressed me about that car was the heated and electric folding mirrors.

Is this something that can be retro-fitted to the FR. I've asked my local dealer, but he didn't seem to "get" me!! I'm imagining it won't be cheap as it'll need new looms i would imagine, but at least it will satisfy my curiosity!

Any advice would be greatly received.

I used to have those on my TDi Sport, was kinda disappointed when my FR didnt have them.

Take with one hand give with another i guess or just cost cutting....

Would imagine its just wiring and the actual mirror internals that are different?

Could be harder than it sounds, switch, mirrors, wires, controll units and the door controll units may need to be re coded or replaced.Lots of messing about! they leave them off the FR because its a performance model, less weight!

I'm sure it's totally do-able, I just daren't mess about with mine as it's a company motor!!

Just wondering if anyone on here has tried it. It's the ONLY thing I don't like about the car as my last motor had heated mirrors and they're a God-send in the misty/cold mornings! I'm not that bothered about the folding (although that would be pretty trick).

I reckon you'd need a new wiring centre/plug connector, mirrors with heater elements in, motors for the folding mechanism and a decent wiring diagram of the Ibizas with them fitted.

I reckon a decent dealer would be able to do it, it's just finding one willing to try it. Not had much experience with Seat dealers so far so don't know how hard finding one willing to try would be!

I think the folding and heated mirrors are an optional extra along with cruise control. I didn't realise the mirrors on my ibiza fr weren't heated until i picked the car up. Every car i've had in the last 8 years has had heated mirrors and i was slightly disappointed to find out that my year old fr didn't. However i think i'll be trying Rainex on the mirror glass to see if this helps disperse the water off the glass easier , i've got a bottle of it out in the garage somewhere.
I would be interested to know what would be involved in changing the standard electric mirrors to heated ones at least - not too bothered about them folding in them selves. Would it just be a matter of changing the mirrors for ones with the heat element in them and then changing the control switch on the drivers door?

If they were an option on the FRs then a dealer should be able to retro-fit them as they'll be able to access the list of parts required. The problem I've found with dealers in the past is that they can't see past what part lists come up for the particular model in question!!

I might have a phone round over the next couple of days. My findings will be posted!!

Now that my warranty is out I am looking to get a pair of heated mirror glasses, I will then probably wire them up to the heated rear window switch via a relay.

that way they will work prety much when you need tham to and they will time out when the rear screen does too. This is how they work on vauxhalls.

Anyone know where to get the heated glasses and how much?

I think that it is doable, my reasoning is that when i took my door cards off at the weekend i noticed that the window motors had 2 plug spaces free and i would bet that the mirrors interface there - I may be wrong but it seem logical to me ;)

You're lucky then! The local dealer to me doesn't have a clue and just couldn't grasp what I was asking for, just kept saying "but if it didn't come with heated mirrors how could you ever fit heated mirrors?" Grrr!

right...picked up my car and was told that the housing for the electric folding mirror itself is around £97...however, wiring for the folding mirrors may have to be done (she believes this is more of a 'will have to be done' but cannot say as they haven't fitted any at the garage)

I think quite a lot of wiring would have to be done UNLESS Seat just wire them all up the same and then don't fit stuff like the heated mirror glass and the motors for the mirror housing to the cars that are to be fitted with the heated & folded mirrors. I know Ford do that with stereo leads. There will have to be a link to the heated rear screen so that the mirrors heat up when the rear screen de-mister is activated. You'd also need the motors as said (was it £97 for both or just one?) and the switch is different.

I managed to break my passenger side wing mirror and looked around for replacment, found one on ebay that was electric and heated. When i recieved it and fitted i noticed the connection block had more wires going into it (for heated glass) I then checked the connector block on the car side and it had the same connector already wired. So I am guessing all you need is the door switch and maybe relay. I havent got any further yet but may order the door switch soon and let you know.

That'll just be for the heated option then. The motor to fold them must be elsewhere??
