Hi,

Back last week i found out my heater resistor was naffed. Well i got a replacement, was ready to fit it managed to unbolt the old one but came across a pretty horrible problem.

The plug which goes into the Blower resistor has corroded (due to water at some point entering the car, my guess is sh*tty fitting of the pollen filter before my ownership) and i cannot unplug the nackered resistor.

Also the wire on the 4th setting 'port' is bare and im not really liking that one bit...

Heres some pics:

Is it possible to get this plug? Or would it be better to ask someone breaking a leon and then see if i can get it?

As you can see the resistor is pretty well naffed, i did notice on one of the old MOT certs not long after a service that there was an additional note of "Car filled with water" but after that one time, nothing ever again, and none in my ownership so far (And here in Wales we have alot of rain :p ).

Basically what i want to know is, any idea how the hell im going to replace it, i tried my damned hardest to removed to plug but the only thing i could think of was buying a new plug and finding someone to snip it out and replace (not a clue how hard that wud be - or price :( ).

Its not a major worry about it getting fixed any time soon but not too happy with having some corroded electrical wires and connectors in the car now that i know about them. Peace of mind really

I also did something really stupid :p in my p*ssed off rage at not being able to get it apart (after punching a few things lol) i sprayed it with WD40 only to realised the second i did it could potentially spark (with the bare wire) haha... so that made me a little more nervous, managed to clean most of it off thankfully and its now wrapped in some insulation tape till i can get it fixed.

Any help?

Only other thing is to destroy the nackered resistor and see whats left of the plug.

Maybe spray WD40 on it and leave it (not bother to use it at all till its fixed)

Update on this problem:

Its fixed.

I managed to soak it in WD40 then took a hacksaw to the plastic of the old heater resistor.

It was a pain but managed it!

So if anyone else has the same problem as me, take ur time and try a hacksaw lol

Well done for fixing it. It wasn't really possible to answer your earlier question - you just have to deal with the corroded connector as best as you can.

The bare wire is not a significant spark risk (12V, low current) and WD-40 has very low flammability now they've replaced the propellant with CO2

Great, i did wrap some tape around it now that its gone back in the car just to be on the safe side.

It has such a stupid design, the wires are in the way of the one retaining bolt.... i had a saxo before the leon and the french were masters at making things awkward, checking the resistor housing "made in france" touche frenchies lol
