My heater motor has packed in, is it really a case of dash out? Or can it be bodged out somehow? Really, really don't want to remove the dash!

I read that it could be removed by taking out the glove box, but I have a sneaking suspicion that it may have been for lhd models. Still, it might be worth a look. Are you sure it's the motor itself?

It's only the top half of the glovebox that comes out by the looks of things :(

Yeah, pretty certain it's the motor, put 12v to it and nothing happened!

I've seen other reports of it being removed without the dash needing to come out, I'll just get in about it and see if I can get it out.

New motor on the way!

Haynes Manual states facia panel removal is necessary:

Heater blower motor

Removal

26 Remove facia panel and crossmember as described in Chapter 11.

Chapter 11·23

31 Facia panel assembly -
removal and refitting [4 spanners out of 5 for difficulty]

Don't forget to let everyone know if it was a simple procedure.

It can indeed be done without removing the dash. Quite rough, but it can be done.

Haynes manual will be handy for removing glovebox etc.

1. Remove glovebox as much as possible (Lid, top etc).
2. Pop end cap off the dash and remove the three bolts behind there
3. Remove pollen filter cover etc
4. Would be advised to remove the headunit and undo the bolts holding the facia on there too, but I never bothered. Would make life easier though.
5. The rough bit. Grab the bottom of the glovebox moulding and pull it forward enough to give some space to work. Then bend the support member forward. Doesn't need much space.
6. Remove the torx screws holding the motor on. These can be a bit fiddly.
7. Remove all plugs etc attached to the motor and drop it out.

Refitting is reversal of removal. Just bend the dash back into place.

No visible damage, no rattles, everything works as it should and now I have working heaters!

Should also note the new fan is far better than the old one, must of been on it's way out for a while!

Stopped the climatronic screen flashing too, removed the fault code for the motor:

Just had mine repaired today, faulty blower not the resistor or anything, so a straight forward swap out. Removed centre console & facia apparently and unbolted the support member, which supports the airbag:whistle: Cost £120 2h labour to fit, so £200 in all with parts (+ I now have spares)

Echo Chris' last comment above that it certainly seems to blow harder! and if you can answer me this: the old fan seemed to turn with great difficulty, did your new fan turn any easier? as I used a used fan albeit from a newer car.

My old motor and new one seemed the same, though I did have the new model - The part numbers changed in 2007, new versions must be uprated!

Mine also seems to blow harder it's nice having heat again, I was wondering why I could never hear the blowers! Also wasn't my alternator at fault on mine just a battery :)

Will this Work with a Climatronic Ibiza?

Hi All,

New on here, and with a similar issue. I have a Mk 4 Ibiza, the dealer is quoting 450 to replace the motor, they say its because its climatronic its an expensive job. This thread is encouraging me to think I can give it a go, but does the climatronic thing add complications??

Thanks for reading,
