mine was, changed it on my valver today half hungover, its mint now! waste of time just changing the cable. the release bearing was shot, and the pressure plate fingers were almost solid. new one is alot better, cost me £80 all in and a few hours.
Changed the Gearbox oil and it does feel alot better selecting reverse ( most noticably ) and first.

one happy ibiza owner again :D

by the way has anyone paid a garage to change it, just wandering what they demand.

it's good fun doing the clutch isn't it - very rewarding :)

garages need 3hrs really, so about £150+vat

it was really really heavy, and notchy, it felt like it was releasing in stages, the friction plate was mint though only 38k on it. never done a VW box, well not with the engine in the car so i was learning aswell, took me between 4-5 hours, but id say 3 hours would be an achievable time once you get to know the product. Can do a bmw mini one/cooper clutch in around an hour and a half, and they charge 5 hours!

The clutch on my misses 8v has given up.

I took it down midland VW at the weekend and the guy there said it needs a new cluth and claw ??????

£300 i got quoted.

i cant see it but can someone tell me if i have MUG written across my face ?

jody's normally pretty fair on pricing, seems expensive tho? i would shop around

Yeah, probably mate….either a white 8v or a blue 16v, I am normally in the blue 16v…the white 8v is the misses.

Drop me a flash if you see me again.

guy quoted £300... got some where to do i could be persuaded into helping out... im in the westmidlands if you were wandering lol...

Dolly your Clutch sounds exactly how mine feels now. Was worried it was pedal box related but mine is bolted (and fingers crossed looks ok).

I am not v mechanically minded, but how hard was it to do?
Beer Tokens ;) haha

Ollie

remove clutch cable easy
remove battery easy, remove 2 x 19mm bolts on the top of the gearbox
remove wheels, unbolt drive shafts.
i removed the N/S drive shaft completly
remove a 15mm bolt and a 10mm on little inspection plate things, suported engine removed rear gearbox mount.
remove starter motor and a 16mm near it. then one 19mm on the rear of gearbox/engine.. then it comes out.

hi, my ibiza vr6 has got a heavy clutch, i think its the dry release bearing. what do you think i should do, get the whole thing done or wat? i dont wana be paying 300 quid!
