Help! Either the wrong engine has been put in my car or there is a problem!

Well, to cut a long story short, after the engine on my 51 plate LC seized 3 months after purchase, the garage finally agreed to replace it. They told me they had sourced a 38k engine (mine was on 76) so I agreed they could put that in.

I asked the mechanic if it was the 180 and not a 150 and he assured me it was.

When I picked her up today I did think she felt good at first but as soon as I got on the main road, I put my foot down. The car jerked a bit on boost so I let up, but now it doesn't feel the same as it did before it went for repair at all. It feels slow. And the turbo sounds louder. Now it's got me questioning whether it was right when I first drove off or whether it was just the small twisty road that made it feel faster to me?

How can I check the engine is the right one? Or could it be a case of the jerk was a hose coming loose on the turbo or something?!

It's also come back with the bloody towing eye cover gone...:(

Please help, been without this car for 6 weeks and just want to be able to enjoy it again....

engine number ?

apart from the obvious label on the timing belt cover it's also etched on the block if i remember correctly

not dismissing the fact that it may have other issues or limp mode etc ???

write down the details and post em up for example :

ABF 123456

ABF = code/type
123456 = serial number

check to see if the serial and type match on your logbook first as the cover may be from your old engine ;)

I don't have it to hand at the mo but will check.

If it is a proper replacement, could it be a leaky boost hose or partially detached one that's making it less powerful and the turbo sound louder when blowing?
