I have the 1.4EcoTsi with ACT. Lovely little motor with enough power to happily achieve motorway speeds and above when required. No issues with over taking in terms of power. Plus when compared to the diesel, you don't have to worry about DPF issues.

On the motorway I can achieve upto around 50mpg when driven sensibly, a recent trip to cornwell (300+ miles) I got an average of 48mpg with more spirited driving at times in the journey and with some stop-start traffic.

I myself came from a 1.9TDI Audi that had been modded with over 200bhp, and in all honesty I haven't felt the power lacking in my choice of engine, very satisfied with it. Couple that up with general consensus online that this engine is reliable and doesn't seem to have many, if at all any, common problems then I think you would be quite happy with your choice. Having owned the car (a 2017 model) for 6 months I haven't had any issues with the engine, or indeed the rest of the car.

Just my 2 cents.

Thanks all, really helpful. I have put a deposit down on the petrol. The diesel is obviously a more pokey car but I can't see that's it 3 grands worth more poke, and besides this is mostly a car for my wife and she could care less about such things! Ages since I had a petrol car so quite looking forward to the change in style, maybe a bit more engaging to drive? Either way, really appreciate the advice given.

Just make sure at the first fill up, it's the Green pump, not the Black one! Saying that, the black pump might not fit anyway...

That looks very familiar...

The only problem I had going from a 2.0 Tdi to the 1.4 TSI was the grabby clutch, I still don't like it and intend to get the DSG next time.
