hi everyone could do with some help i have a ibiza 1.9tdi 130bhp it has a starting issue will turn over for about 8 seconds before it starts and other times (this is most of the time) the car just turns over and will not start. i have to turn the ignition of and try again pushing the throttle and it evenually starts. i have changed the fuel filter when i removed the old fuel filter i drained it to check it found water and dirt in it! fitted new fuel filter thought it would be fixed checked next day still the same!!!!! thought it could be heater plugs so i removed the heater plugs and tested them found 2 not working so fitted 4 new heater plugs, started ok after plugs fitted, thought it was fixed next day problem with starting again so i ve hit a dead end!!!!
ANY HELP WOULD BE GREAT!!!!
THANKS GAVIN

I have a similar problem with my Ibiza 1.9TDI Cupra PD 160 at the moment, i had problems starting the same as bigdublew so i replaced the battery and all was good for a week or two until it started happening again. It seems to only have trouble starting in the mornings and only sometimes during the day as well. Did you eventually find the problem? would love to find the culprit!

check the glow plugs again
injectors or injector pump could be troubled if running on poor fuel or the filter has failed. fuel pipes could be partially blocked?? youll need VAGcom to see if any fault codes really.

Thanks everyone for your help will try glow plug feeds and will try and get it put on a vagcom to see what faults. Gavin

good news got someone to car on vagcom!!!!found problem with fuel sensor and camshaft sensor, checked sensor found to be ok checked wiring to sensor found broken wiring to both sensors repaired wiring clear fault codes road test found ok car starting fine now, thank god hope this helps anyone else with this problem!!!!!thanks again for all your help.

Ive been searching high and low for an answer to this problem and everytime i never seem to find a straight forward answer from anybody BUT now this sounds reliable and im going tp check my sensor wire as soon as i get my car back from a major service :) where about is was the broken wire (camshaft sensor) in the engine? ... im hoping this is finally the solution to a year of starting problems.

i found the sensor but how to you take the cover off to access the sensor?? and how will i test if its a brokern wire or the actual sensor itself that could be faulty? - theres nothing worse then trying to start your car in a public place and it does want to start and everybody loooks at you
