Personally I'd go for job one, sounds more interesting and more chance for career progression. I'd go with which ever you world feel happier doing

Whereabouts is Nuclear position?

My industry too for the last 27 years. Four roles in that time and each role increased the money and the workload amount and complexity.

Job offer 2 gives stability and although a drop in money to start with, the greater potential for advancement will see money rise to greater than what you’re on now. Workload may increase to semi taxing too depending on the role.

I’d always look at longer term rather than short term gains.

Chapelcross

that’s what i’m thinking, short term pain for long term gain.

I believe they are in for a contract for a new fusion reactor. So could potentially be big things on the horizon for the site.

Depending on your age it’s a no-brained to me.

I am an Electrical Supervisor but the new role is Maintenance Electrician.

So it’s also a backward step in job role but then if opportunities arise I already have the Supervisory qualifications / experience.

Sounds like you have the experience to advance and your age puts you in a good position.

Lots in our place have moved from electrical or mechanical positions to team supervision positions.

So what’s your choice?

Alot of people will go with option 1. But you have to look at the entire package and not just the numbers.
How does the company operate?
What is there retention rate of staff?
Do you know people at these companies?
is there any progression?
can you negotiate your starting salary? say to them you have an offer from xxx for £yyy

BTW - i would suggest option 2, same as Maypack! Security is key to me. 4 days a week means more time with family as well. Potential looks better from what you have said.

Plus there’s always the potential to move onto shifts at an enhanced rate for working unsociable hours.

Im currently doing 4days on 8days off on a 12hr shift rota.

4 on 8 off thats amazing. Get me on that job!

i have accepted offer 2

The last time they took anyone on “on the books” was 2005 for a Maintenance Electrician. I just think the potential could be huge. Could end up on funny money!

Good choice. Congratulations on the new job

My shift cycle is good but at the end of April we are dropping back into our normal 4on 6off 12hr rota which is what we usually work.

That is a good shift cycle!

no shifts at Chapelcross as it is currently in the care and maintenance phase.

hopefully their bid is successful for the new fusion reactor that they are bidding for.

fingers crossed
