So finally got round to fitting my HIDs with a little help...

however they seem to be too bright, as in a couple of cars flashed me and also i can tell they are too high when parked up in front of my garage.

I have the light adjustment at the lowest...so is it just a matter of taking the bulb out and angling it a bit lower....or shall i get a MOT place to allign them properly?

thanks for any help

used the main adjusters on the top of the light itself, i think on the mk4 they aare down holes in the slam panel

one does up n down the other left and right

check the bulb seated corectly and if they are to high then use the adjuster inside the car to roll them down until you can get to a MOT station to adjust them (normally cost you a fiver)

My local MOT place adjusted them properly last time I had an MOT (but didn't mention the fact that they were HIDs). I tend to run with them lowered one setting on the electric / manual adjustment on the dash when doing motorway cruising (as most of my driving is). Only EVER been flashed twice and that was before they were adjusted properly!

i find the beam pattern was higher when i put in my HID compared to the Halogens. i used just a wall when an even surface to park my car. Mark the beam height before, put the HID in making sure the adjuster is on 0 and the bulbs were seated properly. there are two adjuster dial on top of the cluster, you will need a posihead or a hex head screwdriver with a long shaft as you need to get it passed a hole through the top crash panel. Adjust to the similar pattern, i find with my kit you're never gonna get it the same as the angled slant patter is more extreme compared to the halogens.

Because the HIDs are much brighter than the standard bulbs and the beam seems to be scattered over a much wider area (or looks to reach further up the road!) This is the bit that dazzles other drivers as they think you have your high beams on!

yea thats what i thought....they look very bright, so i will hyave a play around with them tonight making sure they are sitting flush in the holders.

Prob best i but the headlight alignment dial as high it can go then i can always lower them with this if it is still too bright!

if you have the dial set to 0 when you have the alignment done then you will be fine! it how i have mine.

You will need a 6mm allen key or similar to adjust your headlights, the outboard adjusters are for the horizontal movement and the inboard are for vertical.
I have H7R bulbs in mine so I had to adjust them upward after fitting - but you obviously need to take yours down.
You should`nt need to adjust the horizontal if it was ok before.

the line is fine, in the fact they are in the middle, just they are too high and i have the headlight adjuster at the lowest, so i think i need to fiddle about with them to lower the bulbs...

Ok..

The inclination of mk4 headlights is 1%
So if you park say, 6 metres from a wall on a flat surface, then measure the height trom the ground up to your bulb - then at the wall the top of the beam (the most intense part) should be 1% of 6 metres(6cm) below the height of the bulb.
If you know what I mean.

Oh yeah.. and make sure your lights are on 0.
Silly question.. you know that 0 is the highest and 3 is the lowest?

That sounds right to me, I park about 6 feet away from the wall and the most intense part of the light should never be higher than the middle of your steering wheel.

Light will be ABOVE that, but not the brightest part!

Err how many mm to a m? 1% of 6m would be 60mm

yea i found the horizontal adjustments...but where are the vertical adjustment...i have the long shaft allen key...but cant find the adjuster??

any help

Its on the top of the headlight unit,
Its a white dial thing. You can put a screw driver in it and turn.
If you open the bonnet and look straight down at the unit its the white thing on the top.
