hi guys do the hid upgrade kits need to be canbus compatible or can you use any old kit ?

This has been coverd a few times mate. Most people, myself included, would say not to bother as retro kits have been made illigal from next year.

I have a set off these

http://www.hids4u.co.uk/h7-35w-ultimate-xenon-hid-conversion-kit.html

in mine, 5k with anti-glare bulbs... they look great, but as has already been mentioned, they are technically illegal and will fail an MOT. Personally I can't understand how more light and properly adjusted lights (unlike the d!cks that drive round with one that may as well be a headlight) is a bad thing, but I've never been flashed for having mine in :)

I also have a 25% discount code, PM me if you're interested (That offer is to anyone btw ;))

EDIT: Totally forgot, they are 100% CANBUS compatible... so no warning lights!

well i tried the kit from my bravo in her lil ibiza this morning and the pattern is exactly the same just a tiny bit higher so were having a think now

Lots of things are illegal for gods sake, doesn't stop people doing them lol

Not sure what mine are, they came out of a friends Leon but I've yet to have someone flash me, I keep the headlight adjustment at the lowest point most of the time though, unless I'm on country back roads and nobody else is about. The light off them is far better than the crappy yellowish bulbs that were in them.

The likes of Osram Nightbreakers (I've just ordered a pair for my high beams) etc are recommended as well if you chose not to go with HID's, not sure if they're quite as good but shouldn't be far off

I have the Osram NightBreakers in my head lights, they're defo brighter than the standard bulbs, but they're about half as bright as my HID's. I have them in my headlights cos the HID ballasts don't like being "flashed".

IMO the Osram's are better than the Ring 100% brighter bulbs, and from experience they last longer too :D

I've got Ring 100% in my car and it has last me nearly 2 years now and still going! Also the OSRAM bulbs, my cousin has them and he already on his second pair! They only last 6 months.

I guess it depends on the batch that come out of the factory :D Might give them a go when my Osrams pop

A good set of bulbs will always outdo a crappy chinese hid kit. There is a reason these kits cost more than an oem replacement bulb and thats purely down to the fact they suck, the extra light is a myth and due to the design it just disperses less light wider!

thats not strictly true
the lights in the bravo i use are much better with the hid kit fitted as they are more intense then the old filament bulbs which were in them
not only can i see better with them they also do shine further then the normal bulbs and light up signs much better
my set is the 2nd gen slim kit which cost £45 been in there over a year no problems and pass a mot perfectly fine

Likewise here! New kit is miles better than the shitty lights that were in mine. Having said that mine weren't a cheap n nasty ebay kit from Hong Kong
