Hello there, just a few questions about a car im looking at.

Well its a 1.4 petrol, it has 73k on it, but the bodywork and interior are near enough like brand new (one or two chips on the bonnet but repairable), and most importantly i can afford to get it!

Its had the belts done at 60k and has FSSH.

Well my dads thought on this is that the engine wont last long as it is a 1.4, should we be concerned?

And is there any problems with these engines we should look out for?

Thanks

:lol: Ok so i know your looking at the newer model than mine, but i bought mine at 90k+ and now is about 109,000. The engines running grand, its my gearbox thats gone. I posted like you asking about high mileage, but if its been serviced regularly, looked after, not thrashed etc theres no reason it shouldnt last way into the 100K. Im expecting at least 120K before mine dies, but i bought it knowing i may have to do an engine transplant (bit of fun) :funk:as i plan on keeping the car for at least a good few years.

Personally i wouldnt be worried

Your dad knows nothing

Come back when there's a 1 in front of that mileage.

Thanks mate, but my dads been buying and selling cars for 15 or so years and he generally thought that being a smaller engine that it wouldnt last.

Our 1.9 tolly has 130k on it and runs great and we've had no problems (it'd probably do double that no bother) so its not so much the high mileage, just the fact its a small engine.

Yes that is true, just the fact that people thrash the smaller engines probably why they dont last.

It has been regularly serviced with a seat dealers, but that doesnt always mean its done right i suppose

Yeah i suppose i would be in the same boat as you a few years down the line. Its possible id keep it for a track toy and just rip it to bits and put a cupra lump in :)

I think this has put my mind at ease a bit, cheers

I wouldnt be scared of buying one with 130k+ 70k is low for me ive got a mk3 ibiza 1.4 8v outside with 166k on it and it runs sweet.

That is good to hear as my daughter has a 2001 6K Ibiza with a 1.4 8V - come on they do get quite noisey though! These engines might be low powered but they do deliver what they have low down the rev range - and that can make for some adequate results.

There a pretty nippy engine the only problem i have with them is gearboxs but the engines are pretty noisey which puts nearly everyone off when trying to sell it and ive done 60k of those miles and i service around every 5k but its made no differance.
