if your standard ones keep "blowing", could there not be another problem?

Make sure when you replace the coilpacks that you are getting the latest revision of coilpack, and not some old stock that someones had for a while.

in one of the VW mags recently there was a top tip on these coilpacks. to stop them popping up when the engine gets hot because of the expanding air cut a small V shape into the rubber ribs so the hot air can escape preventing the packs lifting up.

On the reliability note:
I've had my car for 3 years, and not had a single coil-pack failure until about a month ago. In fact, i can almost proove that the coilpacks have been on the car since new, as I am in contact with the previous (1st) owner. That would be 4.5yrs! :)

Must be a record!

As with most manufacturers, early equipment is always better made, as time goes by they change suppliers to save money so the quality drops.

I've had the bolt down Hitachis for 2 years through five trackdays, no failures as yet. Went through a few push downs in a short time so got rid of.
