Hoe much does the climate control affect economy?

I hear people going on all the time about how having the climate control / aircon on uses loads more fuel - I even know someone who won't even use it on his car because of that!! (cheap tw@t!).

But - on my FR TDi I have honestly never noticed a drop when using it - I'd imagine if you had it on LO all the time it might because it has to work harder to keep the air so cool but lets say you have it on 20 or so and it's around 24/25 outside, does it make all that much difference???

I think it probably affects the consumption by about 2-4mpg or thereabouts - at least that's what I've worked out from my highly unreliable and unscientific tests. Not a huge amount, but noticeable over a long period. I think you're right not to worry too much about it. :)

Only had my TFSI 4 months and have been monitoring my MPG but only from the onboard overall MPG.
I have noticed that during the past ten days of hot weather when I have been using Aircon, albeit on mixed short/medium
length journeys, MPG has dropped 2-3 MPG :(
This has been more noticable within the last 4-5 days of hot weather, unless the high ambient
temperature is also affecting MPG ??????

I've noticed a drop of around 4mpg on my 50 mile a day round trip...but sometimes its just too hot so economy goes out the window...so to speak.
