reason the insurance is high is due to a number of factors.

the parts are, i imagine harder to attain or more expensive.

the car is more appealing to a theif

the insurer needs to think of the "type" of person who will buy that car. and lets be honest. people dont buy a type r so they can save fuel by not using (and abusing) the vtec!

my previous car was a lexus gs300 sport. the gs300 se was group 15, my sport was group 18!!!!!!!!! that was a 3.0 litre with team toyota europe's touch
the gs430 (4.3 V8 290bhp) was cheaper to insure in group 17:shrug:

absolutely. how fast the car goes is only one insurance factor and no indication of performance

Wel, when I was 17 I picked up 3 motoring convictions for driving my mums car whilst slightly drunk (daeoo matiz or all cars) and they're still giving me grief! The cheapest quote was £3500 3rd party f/t! Compared to what I'm paying now £1200 it's crazy! I'd be 21 when/if I buy the car.

lol suppose they will give you a bit of grief as it goes. FR TDI insurance group 11 aint they?

I also find it amusing how the Golf GT with the 1.4 170hp engine is a higher insurance group than the golf gti and leon fr.

For the money you can get remaps for these days the VAG cars are bloody good!

Supose it depends how much you like revving the engine and what styling you like.

I used to have a civic sport, which was a CTR with a little 1.6 engine, Looked.. (dare i say this on a Seat forum) far better than any ibiza.. but i supose they're different leagues, size of hatch etc.

Put a CTR against a LCR and it wouldnt stand a chance money you spend on a leon against a CTR on engine mods you get alot more for your money and looks just as good!

Well, around a circuit myself and this guy in a CTR, i had an extra body and he just couldnt get it right, he was always faster but the amount i would gain on him through every corner was silly, he even said he was damned shocked.

If he would have stayed about 6k through the bends it would have been a different story. Though if i was mapped and he drove like he did i would have left him in smoke.

I would gain on him, then v-tec... then he would have to brake again for a corner.

They handle brilliently! and the LSD is priceless.

I can pawn 150 FR petrols around the same circuit though .

yep silly little 1.4 twincharger is a amazing group 17. No idea how they worked that one out.

never mind all this just buy an evo9 like my mate did after 2 type-r's

now where did i put that winning lottery ticket?

A CTR doesn't have LSD,only a ITR does ;)

The previous CTR is one hell of a car - IMO, still the best Hot Hatch on the road today and in the last 10 years - Yes, big praise indeed - but consider it's costs, it straight line performance and it's handling - there isn't much out there that can keep up with it - even today. People will inevitably come back with the R32's and S3's - but would you expect anything less (and only in a straight line) for DOUBLE the price of a CTR.

Personally, I think it's easy availability - commonness (popularity, for you CTR owners) has kinda taken the shine off it - but hey, who can blame all them chava's for buying one? cheap as chips and fantastic fun to drive.

Well I've got a EP3 CTR and the gf got a ibiza cupra tdi.

I think they civic has a higher insurance group due to it being more desirable than a diesel ibiza, no offence intended.

Got to admit I really like to drive the cupra, the low down grunt of the cupra is good and makes for easy / relaxing drive, it can shock a few people too.

But if I want to put a smile on my face it has to be the civic.

Two totally different driving experiences and I like them both, in fact when we first had the cupra the gf couldn't get me out of it:D.

Think youve sumed up a near on old thread mate :)

The CTR is more desirable to steel, not just faster which is why its higher on insurance.

Get the Cupra mapped and ya gf could tash you in a straight ;)

EP3 & FN2 couldn't keep up with my little Cupra on a couple of occassions but mine is remapped so not too surprising.

I had an EP3 for 3 years when they were first released and loved it, but I feel my Ibiza Cupra TDI handles better, gives me much more confidence than the Civic ever did, specially on bumpy corners were it was always a little twitcy.

 Haha, as above std v std they arent in the same league, so why even bother. However a remapped PD130 driven correctly wouldnt have a problem keeping up with a Type R, from experience, several times. With several Type R's!

Besides, as also mentioned above, Type R 1/4 times arent anything special, 15.5+ ive never seen one lower.

Whilst I know a several PD130 mapped getting 14.7's 14.8's and 14.9's

Anyway, they are different cars all together so why people try and compare them I will never know. One does 50mpg, sounds like a tractor and once mapped would keep up, the other is a mid-life crisis car that screams like he wishes his wife did in bed when you hammer it.. fact ;)

had to comment on this LOL

im sure you know kev? with the red ep3 his "standard" civic ran a 15 flat also seen some do a 14.9 in standard form at the pod.... vtec has to be driven properly otherwise can be very slow, ive been and done the whole VAG thing had a 20v turbo with a few bits and bobs done to it in an a3 but now own an ep3 totally different cars all together imo and ofc the jap one is better ;)

keep seeing your car a few houses from mine now !?!?!?

Just waved bye to my EP3 04 plate after 1.5 years of ownership due to me returning to uni and can't justify the cost of running, mainly the fuel so I'm looking at Ibiza TDI's. I can honestly say it was a fun car for the 1st year but after a while I got sick of the lack of power low down, the countless number of drivers thinking you want to race and when I did drive with a heavy foot I felt a bit like a chav with the engine screaming so it does draw alot of unwanted attention.

This may sound weird especially to petrol heads but after driving my step dads knackered old Golf TDI I think I actually preffer the tractor meaty sound of the diesel to the high revving petrol

As for the thread topic, in 1.5 years I never came across a Seat believe it or not but have definitely been caught out by a few diesels which is why 0-something times don't make much sense to me because by the time I had realised, changed down a gear and eventually caught up I had already lost what 5+ seconds off the civics 0-100 time of 17 seconds :headhurt: I don't miss it as much as I thought I would but I certainly don't miss the suspension on UK roads [:@]
