In case it is too long - is it a flexible aerial as it looks pretty solid?

pretty rigid but only rubber so will move if you want to fit a roof rack.

i bought mine from that advert on ebay, was for a lcr but when i got it it didn;t fit, not worth hassle of sending it back so prob just gonna keep standard. don't look too bad after all.

I didn't send mine back it turned out I had a chat with him and he said he sent wrong one because he stocks different thread lengths for most vag cars. I said well you need to update your advert otherwise people will get wrong aerial like me - which they have lee merrin off here. I got a new one two days later and it fits perfectly and great reception.

I must have missed something? What's the point in changing the aerial? Any positive sides?

not much really just gets rid of the long one and replaces with a short stubby one. some poeple think it,looks cleaner and tidier etc i cant make up my mind. the aerials off a honda so next time you see a civic or something have a look at the aerial and you'l see what everyones talking about.
