If you don't mind paying I'd suggest just buying a new card from SEAT directly, or one of the many online reputable retailers who resell their own cards.

Why bother? Google Maps or Waze via your phone are much better. Use a USB cable to connect phone to car & you can use either on the car's central screen.

In almost 5 years I've only used the in-built sat-nav once - in a rush to leave home & forgot my phone and a closed motorway required sat-nav on the return journey.

I used Waze with a vengeance for the first time last week and found it to be excellent. I don’t have factory sat nav in my VW and now having experienced Waze, I don’t think I would ever use a factory system even if I did have it.

If you followed the link I shared you'd find a 19 July post by Tell. In that thread it explains how to find out what system you have.h The relevant bit is copied below.

Without any more information than your car is 2019 it's difficult to tell you anything else than do the following.

How do I know which unit I have ?

Press the “NAV” Button >

Confirm the “Setup” >

“Version information” selection on the display.

Check the first text line in "Version information".

If the first three digits are 6P0 it's a mib2 standard (serial number is also on the card)

If it is 5F with a mapping card in the slot it's mib1 standard

If not either of above it's a mib1 or 2 "Navi System Plus" (no card in the slot)
2019 cars won't have the nav button will they?
They just have 2 buttons?

Is it REALLY this difficult, my god. All I seek to do is buy a 2024 satnav update due my daughter's 2019 Leon. I can't believe how difficult this is turning out to be. Her cat arrived this Wednesday, and then on the Friday she starts her new job on the south coast so 8 hr drive and a 2019 map.

It’ll have car play. She can use maps off her phone. If you want to understand how to use the sat nav in the car. Try the cars manual or a YouTube video. Various people have given advice, or pointed you to a useful link.
In general the majority of people use CarPlay so probably haven’t looked at updating the map. However it’s a memory card in the glovebox. Search eBay for seat Leon 2019 map update memory card?
Or Maybe ring seat and ask if you don’t want to search, which would maybe be easier than the difficulty you’re having here?
sometimes people just don’t have the direct answer straight away or may have not visited the forum since you posted - everyone’s pretty good here when you need help.

You can save yourself the money of buying a new card with modest PC skills. There is a resource built from the long running Leon 3 thread.

Yours I believe is a mib2 standard... I guess you dive into "how do I know" in the link, you are looking for 6P0. Also if it has a card in the system it will sag 6p0.... with other numbers on it. If so you down load the latest maps as linked

Then you MUST follow what this board calls the "workaround" devised by Exciter in 2017:

Steps:

  1. Download the latest standard MIB2 maps
  2. on the infotainment go to settings, safely remove, sd1 card
  3. remove sd1 card from glove box slot
  4. long press on the on / off to reboot it a couple of times
  5. insert sd card in to computer
  6. copy and paste all contents to a directory on your computer
  7. Delete the SD card keep it as fat32 and leave format settings as default in file explorer (don't forget to push the card lock mechanism to off) (ditto in a MAC or delete all from the SD card)
  8. Copy the new downloaded map version to the SD card (after unzipping it)
  9. Replace /maps/EEC/EEC_WLD/OVERALL.NDS on the SD CARD with the one from the original SD card
  10. eject the sd card (on a MAC run CleanMyDrive on the SD card - then eject)
  11. Inserted the card into the card 1 slot in glove box whilst infotainment is off
  12. power on and go to navigation
Step 9. Is the workaround. Skoda and VW offered life long mapcare via this download. Seat was awkward and didn't. Shuffling the that overall.nds file from the original card onto the new image forces the unit to generate a new navigation FeC in the unit. The method has been copied by all Seat formums across Europe now, all down to one clever poster in 2017.

If its a mib2 standard since 2017 circa 2020 or so the European map expanded in size. Original cards were 16gb. They can still be used if you pick a file from the link that is zoned. If you really want to travel across Europe all zones buy a 32gb card. These can cheaply be bought off eBay using what you normally do observe the reputation.

It's likely that the linked files release in June 2023 will be the last mib2 standard updates since nothing appeared in November 2023 across Vag boards.

The other thing that you can do if you use TMC (traffic reports). These were discontinued in April 2023 by the Traffic Master provider if a Mib2 standard you can go back 3 years to Here Maps file and use a mod to get the unit to work on Inrix the other UK provider.

This link:

Getting it to work was done by two people on Briskoda one taking the Ozzie solution of imported Vag cars to Australia and getting them on the Australian TMC service. You had to wash that through a mib2 standard tool kit whilst that was perfected without doing that by an Audi TT programmer driver... least I thinks he's got a TT up there with the likes of Exciter. That just requires so code copied on top of the files. Either way the solution only works with V12 maps due to mib2 standard maps from V13-V18 being based on TomTom files rather than Here maps. The Here maps to V12 were more generalised and had the bells and whistles in built into them to be customised.

Right well if it hasn't got 6P0 in the map descriptor then it's a mib2 high (Seat Plus). These were sold as the extra deluxe model to be added onto orders but fitted as standard on some Cupras from 2015-2020 (to 2019 model). The resource gives you the test. Again Seat tried to snooker owners from doing free map updates on these units. You can get the life long FeCs put on these units by East Yorkshire Retrofit or use one of two other methods, the mib2 high toolbox or update the firmware to 1447 AIO. Some late Seats in that range came with life long FeCs. You can do the test and check.

Mib2 high maps are still being updated and I'm running with the June 2024 (2024-2025 release) details on the discussion thread and resource. TMC Inrix can be coded onto these units as well, as per resource link and this does work with the latest maps well. That's a simple VCDS / OBDELEVEN coding change. We got to thank the TT programmer driver for that one.

Mib3 is what is used on the 2020 models to 2024. These use Here Maps over the air updates if you pay for connect services or you can do map updates twice a year. See pinned thread on the Leon 4 area of the board. Seat by mib3 scrapped a charged service via mapcare. Saying that best to use the VW files. Seat and Skoda post old files to their website. The user community find these files early why I've got the June 2024 maps on my car already. These Audi maps...

Mib1 the other other one prior to 2015 that's still being updated and the community has found 2023 maps now... on the main navigation thread. It was the Holy Grail early on the thread to update mib1 realiably. There use to be a 50:50 chance, the odds have been improved. Might still be work in progress. You need to carefully follow the instructions on that. See recent mib1 posts on the navigation thread.

This post:

As for Google Maps they do mis cartography. They mis new housing estates and the POIs can be problematic, hit and miss on location. People also find the built in maps useful on dark nights in the Swiss Alps when the phone signal goes 😉... those committed to Google maps. It's horses for courses, mib3 was a backwards step. Mib1 and mib2 are more like traditional navigation systems. We await to see "Mib4" which should appear in the Tavascan later in the year and probably other models from 2025. Whether they have allowed for more destination storage slots we'll see. That was one of the missing sides. Mib3 was a complete re-write of mib2 using Auto Linux moving away from QNX.

For those that don't want to fiddle with phones and just drive the built in maps have their uses and created by proper cartography companies with good validation.

If you want the easy option get a card from Seat dealer, also prepare yourself for what many used car buyers find on delivery, that the SD card is missing!!

The first step is to help yourself, if you're not willing to do any investigation go to the dealership.

Before you order a card, go to the car and find out what sat nav system the car has as it could have an optional upgrade from the standard version. How to do this has already been explained but see info in link below from a card seller.

For the pedantic, the nav button is a tile on the touchscreen. At bottom centre there is a further tile for settings, then scroll to version. My 2019 Leon has a number starting 6PO and would use the following card. You need to check what your daughter's car has.

And if your daughter got a cat instead of a car inserting the SD card won't be pleasant!

That's a pricy card 😉.

The pairing has always been difficult and dealships don't want to know about it. It's only recent that it's been said a completely new card will work straight in... but failing that we have a fix:

All of this has been worked out by posters on the main navigation thread on 5+ years.

Many, many people just update the mib2 standard with the workaround method. If you loose the card, buy a new one and use the link above plus the workaround method. They have all been doing it since January 2017. 6 years years of updates twice a year for free. The issue comes up when they delete everything on the card, hence the link or obtain a new card. The Seat site does say not applicable to the UK, people ignore that. Mapcare was sold in Europe for a princely sum after three years or 100€s new. About 600€s I recall after three years Europe for another three years, whilst UK customers were suppose to fork out £250 or so a go.

Basically when a navigation card is first placed in the unit say version x, it pairs with version x. An online update without the overall.nds trick won't work. You do just the link plus the workaround if you introduce a new card and you don't know what version of card you had. You can buy old cards using the method if into cost saving and put the latest map on them.

Why it's difficult @DrHoneyBEar Seat decided they would ignore the consumers association on dealers charging for map updates and sting it's customers. VW and Skoda abandoned Mapcare which includes the sting, Seat and Audi kept it in. In reality on mib2 standard it isn't difficult to do it yourself for free. That abandonment of Mapcare on VW and Skoda was 2015 and on. Mib3 it's been scrapped on Seat from 2020 cars but you pay for online services on all providers which gives you over the air monthly updates but free twice a year offline. Clear as bell 🔔. Basically in Europe on mib2 standard they stopped forking out on mapcare and moved to the workaround courtesy of Stefan (Exciter) and his "bin walker" technique to find the weakness of mapcare.

I gave up faffing around with map downloads on my 2019 Leon ST with the 6PO system. I bought a 2024 maps update SD card from an eBay UK seller called "XL Navigation Cards Specialist" for £20. It works perfectly, I wish I had done this in the first place. It is a maps only update not a system update as well.

It's not difficult to do the workaround but some people don't have the basic computer skills where buying a map on an SD card comes in. In the past one person copied the directory where the NDS file was rather than the file not understanding the difference between directories and files .

I suspect the 2019 people might be riding on the back of when they took Mapcare off which is why you are getting away with buying a map card and not doing the workaround, if it was that easy people would have done it before !. Seat in Europe wouldn't be charging you 600 Euros for for 3 years of Mapcare if you could do it for less buy buying the card. It was the last year of Mapcare on Seat when it was scrapped.

It's this post:

So when you say easy just buy the card... yes if you have a 2019 Seat !. Those cards were sold for people with map care or where map care had been taken off.

A simple check you can do if you follow the link above. Those that have done it without the workaround will have EE at the end.

Yes just change the SD cards over. It really is that easy on a 2019 Mk3 Leon ST and no need for a degree in software development.

But for 2018 models and before the workaround... it's free. Only the last year of mib2 standard did they scrap mapcare which was never sold in the UK. I don't bother to say if you have a 2019 car then you can do the download without the workaround or buy an SD card. Those without 2019 car must do the workaround. If you buy an old card for cheapness its the workaround. For 2019 cars the card going in the slot for the first time must be the 2019 card as well.

Those Cupra Ateca owners in the last year of production for the mib2 high also got the life long FeCs, the ones before didnt. That's why I table the FEC table for them.

To check you do this:

You can look at your FeC doing this:

1. Hold Menu button until service mode shows.
2. Press "Function enabling codes (FEC, SWaP)"
3. Press "Installed codes"

If a mib2 standard (maps on the SD card) you look for 074 and whether it finishes in EE. If it does you dont need the workaround or even buy a card if you have a card unless technical PC / MAC skills are low.

If it's a mib2 high, look for 073 and finishing in EE. Ditto download maps. No easy workaround if you don't have that, some software surgery is required to put it on the same footing as VW and Skoda map updates.

Sorting out mib2 standard if it doesn't finish with EE on that test it's just a file shuffle, what the board thread christened "the workaround". You are working around mapcare that was never sold in the UK. For that simple PC / MAC skills.

Mib2 high you have one of three routes. Say hello to East Yorkshire Retrofit or take the links in the resource if you are happy with fiddling with firmware. 1447AIO is a modified version of the final mib2 high software it runs the mib2 tool kit at the end of it which does your FeCs if you don't interrupt it, or you run the mib2 high tool kit if it recognises your firmware without a firmware update. Both methods do the retrofitter's tricks, or you give the unit to our trusty sponsor for that and pay. After that you get limit less map care on a mib2 high the same as VW and Skoda and you can update to the yet to be released June 2024 maps. Links given. Limits are whether maps updates continue.

For mib2 standard it looks like the end of the road was reached in June 2023. Nothing since then. Links provided to the file in the resource, use the resource if you have some computer skills. Mib2 high due to the Audi TT retaining the mib2 high it's thought that releases will continue for several years yet. Hence the Russian find of the June 2024 maps already from the map file production line. So June has come early already if you have life long FeCs in your Vag mib2 highs.

To surprise everyone on that mib1 / mib2 Leon mk3 thread, June 2023 mib1 maps have been made available see resource links with the tricks to get them working. Map updating had remained at 50:50 chance on Seat mib1 standard, odds have now improved. People had soon given up after 2015 when mib2 came out. The mib2 standard workaround works 100% if a modicum of PC skills. Mib1 had remained problematic but has changed. With all things take a backup.
