how not to wire your stereo

fitted new stereo the day i picked up my new lcr and since then have had speed sensor faults bugging me.
traced it to a stupid mistake when fitting the radio.
always had VWs and they have a blue/white wire in radio power plug, used for aerial amp power. connected this to my elec aerial output.........

kept getting speed sensor fault on vag com, and after checking wiring diagram to check veh wiring, noticed that seat use the blue/white wire for speed sensor. removed wire and now have a different/improved lcr.

hope this may help someone, feel a bit stupid though

there is a speed sensor wire that goes to the back of the HU as standard from the car?

i thought this was something that needed careful wiring to wire in

no its already there. standard hu adjusts volume with speed. its a blue/white wire in the iso plug. its shown on wiring diagrams but dont know about connecting to aftermarket mate

Just out of interest...did you get any problems which made you want to check the car on VAG COM?

It works with Becker head units - I had a Becker Indianapolis is my LCR and it was used for both the sat nav and speed dependant volume.

i have not put a new Hu in to my Leon because of the problems that can be caused by doing so, is the blue/white wire the cause of these problems and are they avoided by disconnecting it?

This isn't really a big deal.

Swap all the big obvious plugs over and you will be fine.

Start playing with the loom itself and you could cause a problem.

What are you putting in?

A kenwood, which does not plug straight in so i will need to play with the plugs, its just that i had read that nasty things happen if aftermarket HU are put in and if it was just the white/blue wire then i would have left it out.

Just use a standard ISO adaptor and you'll be fine.

The very fine gent in the first post had played with one of the wires and got it a bit wrong. Easily done. If you don't fiddle with it you can't cause any damage.

sorry been working. as prev post, I should have left well alone instead of using prev vw knowledge.
fault showed as fault on vag com first, then management light on after 30-40 miles. read as "vehicle speed sensor inplausible signal"
as soon as radio switched on fault back on vag com!!
fitted a sensor first though............ no change hence looked further into it.

car now drives 300% better and smoother, power delivery improved too.
