Worth a try. My whine began in 3rd and then crept into the others.

Worth noting that the youtube video in the link to the fix makes it look quite easy. Getting that snap ring off was a bit of a pain.

Did mine on saturday whilst doing the clutch. Was noisy in 5th on over run. Noise gone:D.
Thanks to the OP. Could have been paying out for a gearbox build.

Did mine earlier this year. Cured the whining in 1st gear, and it also tightened up the gear change throughout the box - well worth the £20 odd outlay (and an hour with the spanners)

What parts do I need to fix this problem, can someone give me the actual name of the parts and who to get them from as I'll get it orderd today, I've got a humming noise in 3rd gear starting to piss me of now, it's not loud but I can hear it.

Have a look at the end of your gearbox (under the arch) you should see a large black plastic cap about 2 1/2 inches across. That be it.
Also the drain and re-fill plug takes a special splined socket on mine.
Worth a check before you shell out on oil you cant use.
