I can understand this - there are some occasions when the ABS is worse than not having it.

AT YOUR OWN RISK !!

The fuse for the ABS/ESP is F2 in the panel at the side of the dash

Is ABS really that bad? Kind of glad I don't have it

In MOST conditions the ABS is very good and is worth having.

A GOOD driver with full concentration would be able to stop faster than an ABS equipped car - however in those panic moments with the average driver the ABS wins hands down !!

But in some circumstances ABS can work against you - loose snow, sheet ice, loose gravel etc

Just remember that the insurance would take a dim view of it being switched off !

Drive slower leave plenty of space between you and the car in front. Ive driven in sheet ice and heavy snow so far and hardly touched the brakes. Just change down and come to a gentil stop.

Unlike the Corsa driver I watched slide straight through a junction.

My thoughts exactly. Reactions quicker than the cars computer eh?

"Some say he needs no ABS" all we know is that he's a real hero

When ABS Doesn’t Help
The amount to which anti-lock brakes can be effective depends on the road surface. Though Anti-locks can help a driver maintain control when the wheels would otherwise lock during emergency stops, they don't make much difference in stopping distances on dry roads. Why? Because maximum braking is easy to achieve on dry roads with or without anti-locks. Even if the wheels lock, the coefficient of friction between the tires and road surface is still fairly high, so a vehicle stops relatively quickly.
Moreover, on some slippery surfaces, such as roads covered with deep snow or gravel, braking distances can be longer with an ABS system. This is because the wheels keep rolling along the surface of the snow or gravel, rather than locking and ploughing the snow or gravel as the vehicle slides to a stop.

And say hello to random brake bias - just what you want in icey conditions

It will not end well. The rear brakes will lock up well before the front, giving the impression of using the handbrake to stop. The back end will step out, and you will lose controll.

Even on a dry race track I had problems controlling the car when the ABS failed due to the bias. On snow/ice it doesn't bear thinking about.

I love my abs in the snow. At slow speed driving it gives you the piece of mind that you wont just lock up and get out of shape when you touch them. Also 1st gear on my cupra is brilliant at helping you stop aswell when approaching slippery junctions or steep downward gradients. Just use the clutch as a brake!!

And for his next trick he will be using the rhythm method or the withdrawal method of contraception because he has read on the internet that condoms are only 99% effective. :fool:

I thought all MK4 Ibizas came with ABS though? Personally i think its a good feature, and only had it come on once in these snowy conditions on my drive as its on a slope.
