Altea 2.0tdi DSG - 22k fsh 2yr old

Very recently when starting from cold the engine has begun hunting and has stalled on more than one occasion. The revs drop and then it's as if realising this the ecu catches up and it will rev quickly up to over 1k before settling down again.

No trouble at all from a warm/hot start so I guess it's an ecu fault somehow linked to temp, I'll take it into SEAT but other than my description anyone know a likely cause.

It's worse when the climate control is on and turned to a v low or v high setting so pulling power from the engine.

Cheers

Probably a temperature sensor. Working properly, the ECU orders more fuel when cold -- this is the reason why fuel economy is worse during the first miles after a cold start, and why TDIs that make many short trips get worse mileage than those making long trips after the engine has warmed up. This is true regardless of VE or PD injection system.

Most likely nothing serious, but a less-than-expert tech might have trouble diagnosing it.

Thanks guys, found an old thread in the Altea section which suggests it may be due to old software on the ECU from early models. I'll try to get SEAT to update and see if it goes away.
