I have a Cupra K1 in Luna Grey and I thought the paint work was in good condition, until I had it scrutinised by a M3 owner.

I have since been scouring the net for information and details on how to clean my paint and get rid on all the contaminates etc and leave it waxed with that deep shine.

I have now come up with a list of products and an order to use them, but I just wanted to run it by more experienced people to find out if I am on the right path to that shine!!

Wash - Turtle wax wash and wax
Clay- Bilt Hamber Regular
Wash
Polish- AG Super Resin Polish
Wax-Meguirs #16

Is this the best for my type and colour of paint?

Any advice will be gladly accepted!!

for a darker coloured car i went for
poorboys black hole, followed by collonite wax.
Car came out lovely for very little effort

Good answers in the above however it depends how far you want to go with it and how deep you want that shine.

To attain best possible finish you need the car machine polished, ideally by a detailer. Only when the paintwork is properly prept and machine polish will the LSP do its job. Certain LSPs work differently on certain colours, paint types, cars...You may be better of with a Sealant for your type of grey.

Have a look at detail threads from Butler2.8, n_d_fox and myself. Quite comprehensive info there...

Also you need to decide on your budget!

I would love to have it machined polished but I gonna have to rely on elbow grease.

I've seen Chemical Guys Wet Mirror Finish sealant mentioned alot but what wax will suit it best?

Luna grey is a shade of silver isnt it ? Or am i thinking of something else ...

Although you can achieve a glossy finish on lighter coloured cars they do imo look better when you get a sharp clear finish on them.

Maz is right in that for the best finish you are going to need the car polished by machine but if you dont have access to one or the finances to pay someone to do it for you elbow grease and the right products can give you a good finish.

AG SRP is filler heavy so works well in hiding light swirls but you want to try and get what you can out first and then fill whats left. I havent used them but i have read that PoorBoys SSR range of polishes work well by hand. Have a look at somewhere like Waxamomo, Shinerama or CleanYourCar for details on their products. You should be able to use the light or medium cut SSR polishes by hand and break them down reasonably well, anything heavier cut than that is going to be a waste of time by hand.

Once your done with that, put down a layer of SRP... no use using more layers as it is a compound and any subsequent layers will strip off the previous one(s).

SRP doesnt provide any protection or at least anything long standing so either seal that layer / work in with something like AG Extra Gloss Protection (well suited to SRP).

Then wax on top. Your Megs #16 will be fine. 2 layers of the wax makes sure you get total coverage and also adds additional protection.

Ultimate finish for me on that colour would be a machine polish to get the paint into good shape then a once over with Zaino AIO then 2-3 layers of Z2 and then Z8 after a day or 2.

Yeah its Silver but they call it Grey??

Thanks for that!! any difference (other than price) between Megs #16 and Collinite 915? Collinte gets a good review...

Collinite are renowned for their durability but i have never been that impressed with the finish they give, it isnt as glossy / sharp as others in the same / close price range.

To be honest, at the moment, work with what you have and some of the suggestions above and see how you go. Get the techniques sorted before splashing out on products that you may not otherwise see the benefit of.

There is a place called KDS Detailing in Gillingham in Kent. Very good detailers...they have different packages so may be worth checking out.

My car bodywork was also slammed by an M3 driver...the owner of KDS!
