I wrote to SEAT about the kickdown feature in MANUAL MODE

If it's just a button push that does it, could you not just remove/unplug the button?

Unless of course you still want it to kickdown in automatic mode...

Nah because you'll still want it in Drive and Sport. TBH sport mode is only really of use in a straight line as it jumps all over the place.

Found the kickdown feature a huge problem when i first had the car, find it a lot more manageable now though after fiddling with the throttle a little to know what it felt like to press the button but like mardon said it can be pressed accidentally. My biggest problem is the auto up shift when in manual drives me crazy, sooooooooooooooooooooooo wish manual would be just that n the bloody car stop thinking it knows better, although the changing down gears to stop it stalling is fine.

Well finished my 500mile slow stint in the car yesterday so filled the car with £7 and took it out for a nice blast. It kept happening and its now become a pet hate of mine. I will make it my mission to find someone who can turn this bloody function off.

The worst case I had was again in MANUAL MODE, 6k change in 4th coming off a slip road, went to change to 5th waited for the slick DSG change up to finish then booted it.... but no.. car decided it would much rather change down to 3rd (around 6.7kRPM) resulting in a great engine SCREAAAAAM then auto change to 4th.. then me manually changing back to 5th the gear I actually wanted to be in.. Aaarrrrrr Its driving me insane!!

A friend has an audi A4 and the kickdown button can be turned off. I think these are the instructions. 1/4 turn clockwise turns the switch on, 1/4 turn anti clock turns it off.
I dont know if it works for the ibiza, but it certainly worked for the audi.

Just did some googling and a bloke with an A8's wasn't working and he turned it back on using this method. I'll have a look later.

Only problem I find it useful to quickly put the car in sport mode to downchange on kickdown and this feature wont work anymore using this method. I'll have to look if some can re-write the DSG software.

did some more expermenting today:
firstly kick down in my FR does not work at all in manual mode and yes i am pressing the button
secondly the kick down works fine in D and S find it very handy for overtaking
thirdly if you have it in D or S and put your foot down to the floor (without pressing the kickdown button) it will still downshift if it thinks you dont have enough power
which again is equliy as handy as actualy kicking it down (as it does the same thing)
forthly i find i have to physicly make an effort in pressing the kickdown because in the my FR you press your foot down to the floor, the peadle stops, as if it hit somthing, and you have to really push down to hit the kickdown button unless your driving like clarkson shouting POWER! and just jumping on the peadle!

I want your DSG map!!! Kick down in drive is fine, I have no issues with it. In sport it far too keen to drop down when ever it can. You can certainly press the button on mine with ease when you floor it out of an apex.

i think i've got the Jist of it that kickdown in D is normal, S has a keener desire to be in the revs as it would in comparison to D really

problem being that you still get that over keen change down even in manual mode ?

does any ones when they are in d and doing 70mph on the motor push the kick down which kicks it down to 4th gear...??

well yea daryld if you push the kickdown button, of coure it will kickdown....
im sure you mean by accedent as you wouldnt go faster than 70mph on the motorway.

i do find the kick down always gives you a gear so your at around 5500 to 6000rpm
so it should go to whatever gear is closest to that rev range at your current speed.

Yes Revo can do that but cost alot but it is for the DSG for Golf GTI

there is a map for the dsg that revo do however i have emailed them and the replied to me saying it is ONLY available on the 2.0tsi currently and there isnt one for the 1.4tsi. it was prcied at £299.00 and included kickdown being turned off in manual, launch control, and few other little bits, BUT this isnt a remap, one of these will set you back about another £399+ VAT on top!! so very expensive indeed.

I tried the kickdown feature today. I did not find it annoying. In manual mode, 7th gear at 2000 rpm, kick down to 4500rpm (i dont remember which gear, maybe 3rd, i was looking at the revs). I was expecting to shift down to 6500-7000rpm so i tried some more times, it never got over 5000 rpm..... the same in D mode.

so dont press it!!!......it isn't difficult to understand when you have full throttle and when you press the kickdown button......it needs more strength to press this button...so don't press it but you can have full throttle!

i think what the argument is mate is the fact they arent pressing the kickdown button it is still kicking down itself!! even in manual mode.

I spoke to my programmer 2 weeks agon about kick down feature and he said , i really shouldnt turn off this function. The reason the DSG is acting like this is cos its protecting from damaging the gearbox as it is a closed system. I really have no knowledge about this, just transfering what i heard!

No it auto changes to protect which is fine. Kick down to a screaming 6.5k rpm is not protecting anything!
