No i am standard DMF. Ive read on other forums (this is massive on VW,s in USA, the yanks arent very forgiving and have tried rejecting their cars over this) that even when the DMF was changed the shudder came back
I find I frustrating because if I ever so slightly touch the throttle and bring the revs up 100 rpm it settles down and smoothes out. The aircon being switched on and the rear heated screen helps as well. Dont ask me why something to do with increase in fueling mixture.
I asked at the last service if the tickover could be increased slightly in vag-com but they said it cannot.

So for now I am stuck with it chucking the car around when warming up, people complain in the back.
However I have a plan once I am free of warranty. I am going to remove the electronic throttle assembly and try to mod it with a shim on the bump stop (if it has one) which will be just like me touching the gas all the time and to hell with the MPG, well that’s the plan anyway.

I've heard them in person and driven with one! I know what they are like!
As someone else said, the noise is only different on tickover with the clutch up, all other times its the same as any other clutch.
Ah well each to their own I guess I couldn't live with that unless I sat in traffic/cruising etc with my foot on the clutch. I couldn't live with a constant noise from the exhaust either so was careful when getting one that wasn't constant.
Even though the bloody shuddering drives me nuts at times after watching that golf in the video there is no way i could live with that clatter noise of the smf
I picked up my dmf and clutch release bearing on sat from Eurocarparts for £240
Would you recommend me getting one from them for my stage 2 map then? That sounds really cheap thought it was more like £500 then another couple hundred for fitting from what I have read on here?
when driving the smfw is fine! but in traffic (and lets me honest there is loads of it) in order to stop the noise, you have to keep your foot on the clutch which doesn't do much for the release bearing! and to fix the release bearing its a gear box out job, and in these cars it aint the easiest to do as the gearbox is massive with naff all room to drop it out!
well im stage 3 so i dont see the problem if anyone from stage 1 to mine were to stick with the DMF. i'd only go for the SMF if i was planning nitros or water/meth or propane.
i havent really had any issues with my dmf until and thats with 70k, 25-30k of which have been hybrid.
standard dmf can take a lot of torque, like i say mine was ok with over 2years of 380lbft and only changing it now because im getting a new clutch.

I kind of fudged it tbh, it was £282 on their website so i called up and said i subscribed to totalbmw as they do discounts for that mag and it came out at 240 when i picked them up

I would never go past stage 2 remap and I think it was you who said I need a Sach organic clutch but now everyone is saying I may need the flywheel replaced as well so I am confused?
I don't want to waste money and I already feel like I will as I will be replacing a clutch that is 5 years old with under 50k on the clock!(well not yet but still)

I feel like i've just given away my Leon Cupra because the Slave cylinder had gone and nobody would touch it without doing everything including the DMF. The thought of buying another car with a DMF is scary because it basically writes the car off once it goes on cars of this value

It is a little more noisy when sat in traffic.
Like everyone says, its only when you have your foot off the clutch like sat at the lights etc.

But I probably wouldnt buy a sporty TDI ibiza knowing what I know now that was over 80k that hadnt had these parts replaced.
The way I see it is that if your going to replace these items you might as well go overkill because for slightly less outlay over standard oem parts you can get much more heavy duty items.
My clutch does sound a little more noisy than standard but not to the point where it bothers me, I drive a diesel at the end of the day
But I didn't spend money on a like for like replacement part that I would be worried about failing again.

Thanks for the reply. In that case I think I might look elsewhere! Worrying about a car that has done 80k in this day and age is just not right, that's a design fault.
I appreciate remapped ones will kill those components quicker but i'm seeing unmodified ones having the same issues.

I think for me being able to do the work myself makes me have different opinions obviously, with jobs like this alot of the outlay will be labour. Garages charge loads these days, but saying that it did take me ages to do my clutch/flywheel change, on axle stands outside in crap weather
For me I had a problem, ruled everything else out so dropped the gearbox off and found a dead clutch.
But if you couldn't do that then your paying a garage to diagnose the problem and then fix it.

When my Leon broke it was highly suspected my slave cylinder was at fault. No garage would touch it without doing the clutch and they wouldn't do the clutch without doing the DMF.
I couldn't do the work myself and the quotes I was getting to do the work meant I ended up selling the car for little over scrap value. Felt like such a terrible waste!
It didn't help that at the time I couldn't find the parts for less than £530, as you say put labour on top of that and your wallet starts to hurt lots.
Maybe I will be tempted by an Ibiza that has had the work done already!

Since this topic started things have changed and I am no longer going to stage two, my car has done 46k and is a 54 plate had a remap a year now the clutch rarely slips now as I got sued to what I can get away with doing to stop this ie booting it up hill from a slow speed! If this clutch does go I will get the upgrade but like you say will cost a small fortune, this is what stopped me doing stage 2 to be honest. I can get it done a bit cheaper as an ex work college could do it but even still.
