Hi guys, i travelled down to Cumbria at the start of the week and picked up a 54 plate Ibiza Cupra R Diesel i had seen on Ebay the previous day.

Has 99k miles, Full service history, recent timing belt and brakes, 2 owners (guy i got it from had it from 20k), decent bit tax and MOT. Its mechanically sound and needing nothing.

Car was good condition inside and came up great with a valet. Ordered new tailored mats with red trim to match red stitching on interior to finish it off.

Wheels were scuffed and missing 3 centre caps and bodywork was below average with the common rust on front wings and also had light scratches randomly dotted around it aswell as a fair amount of stone-chips.

First thing i did was get wings off a newer model with low mileage and in mint condition. I put it on the ramp and took the wheels off and took them to get refurbished and powder-coated and stripped the old wings off and fitted the mint new ones. Takes a while doing that and lining them up perfectly!

Now got wheels back looking awesome and re-fitted. Still waiting on centre caps arriving.

Today i bit the bullet and dropped it off at a local legend in the bodywork scene to tell me whats best to do to get it mint. Unfortunately for me he decided it needed a full re-spray other than roof and boot for it to be mint. I just left it with him and hes planning on having it done for next Saturday (2 March). As a bonus, hes going to plastic prime and colour code the side bump strips whilst theyre off. :D

Think im going to order a set of H&R springs to get it sitting at a nice height for when its all gleaming!

Bored yet? Ok heres a few pictures until i get it back!

Comments and advice welcome!!

Good motor, should be mint once its had a re-spray, any other plans? My cupra's in the garage too it's been gone 3 weeks now (long story, new turbo) it feels like I have lost a loved one!

It's looking sweet man, I need to get my wheel done also, would you suggest powder costing for this and do they lacquer it also, what's the going rate on getting the wheels done?
I was going to have a go at doing it myself with spray can and sandpaper but rather get the pros to do. Only thing is when the wheels are checked in, do I need to buy a spare set or do they loan you some.

Yeh im looking forward to getting it back knowing it will be mint!

As for other mods im going to lower it to sit nicely, H&R springs? Maybe a LCR splitter then see how i like it, maybe remap etc!

A new powder coaters has opened near me, we have a garage so got trade price of £35 a wheel instead of £40.

I think he was trying to impress, he had them done and back to me in 1day!! No need for replacements in that time! He also 'wet painted' them which is meant to cost £50 a wheel, done that to get a close to standard colour- its a really nice colour.

Basically its powder primed, wet painted any colour, then powder lacquered. Has an awesome finish too!

Id highly recommend them to anyone Fife powdercoaters (Mikey).

Sounds good, the wheel prep sounds on the money too. Definitely a thorough job, if I wasn't so far away I would get them done there too...
Car should look good with all that done
