Ibiza FR 1.9 TDi

Hi everyone.

Im looking to swap my current car, a ZS180, for a diesel, and the Ibiza FR TDi seems to be at the top of the list at the moment. I want a fast car, but I cant cope with the 25mpg that my MG is getting at the min.

Can anyone tell me, or point me in the right direction for details of the Ibiza as I dont really know much about these cars. Also, I thought that this model had the 150bhp, but after reading some of this forum, it turns out they're 130's???

Also, I know you can 'chip' the diesels up for good gains, but what gains can I expect for how much, and how does it effect the MPG.

Sorry for all the Q's but I only really know stuff about MG's and Vaux's.

matty, welcome aboard theres a raft of information on here about the ibiza FR, a look back through the TDI and Ibiza Mk4 section will give oyu loads, and a search even more. The FR Ibiza is only ever 130bhp, the FR Leon comes in 150 though.

Chipping, been covered plenty before, but just breifly, 180bhp or so for anywhere from £350-£500, MPG could improve if you use the extra torque to not change down as much but usually the extra power is utilised more so driven harder hence mpg down 1-2. nothing major at all, most people have found the mpg stays the same.

i agree, def go with a 130 n a custom code...

u'll find its probably quicker than ya MG anyway

Actually 450 + VAT for a PD engine!

Basically remap the car, and its as fast as ur MG (give or take) loads more torque and better mpg

Thanks for all the info guys. Im gonna test drive an 05reg Ibiza FR130 sometime this week I think. It has 12000miles on the clock and is £9295, but I get a £200 - £300 discount, so nearer the £9000 mark. Is this a reasonable price.
One thing im unsure about, its a european import, will this mean I might not have some of the features the UK cars have. It is supposedly UK spec.

We also have a 1.8T FR Ibiza 55 plate 2000 miles of £8995 that ive been very tempted with, but I need a diesel for the MPG

Any info greatly appreciated,

high mate the 1.8t is really good as well not to bad mpg on a long jurney but if you cain it like i do not so good both are great cars loads you can do to them

You may find some early Cupra TDi's going for around £9500 now if you look hard enough. Might be worth a look.

waht ever you go for you will be happy all are good performance wise! cupra tdi is ver popular over the cupra 20vt but fr tdi's are also very popular with great performance and fuel economy

Yeah the Cupra TDi looks good and the performance seems top notch, but its insurance group 15 or 16 compared with the grp 8 of the FR.
My 180 is grp 16 and im fed up of paying £800+ for insurance.

Hi mate, i would say go with the FR TDi. And as for the question you asked, yes it is very possible, just look at mine it will say bye bye to even a cupra 20vt.

i would say if your going to be modding it seriously get an fr instead of cupra its lots cheaper and gives you money to start the modding the things that are on the cupra that yours dont have you may well replace them anyway if you bought the cupra! about 2k difference in the prices and 6 insurance groups!

Agree, but it depends how far he is considering modding. If your doing a spaniels then deffo go for the Fr. If your looking at a remap and a few other trinkets then I'd plump for the Cupra.
