Hey Guys,

I've got a MK4 Ibiza sport, and its got the standard lights and I am looking to get some HID's as I went for a drive in my friends car with them in, and they were excellent.

I was looking for some advise as I'm not sure about best makes, best places to look etc or even what size (I'm useless I know!).

Any advice would be great,

Thanks

I'm also very interested to know about whats the best bet with HIDS.

I've heard that 6000k ones are your best bet (Not too blue, but the light can apparently travel further distance)?

Also who's been caught for having HIDs, can they be installed to a degree that theres a low chance of being fined?

If aligned will you fail an MOT with them?

Sorry for the Hi Jacking, just saves another HID thread.

The lower the colour temp the whiter the light is / the higher the number the more purple they become. 6000k is widely regarded as the one to go for.

Also the lower the colour temp the more light is transmitted on the road... the higher the number the less light you get on the road surface.

If you have single headlamps buy H4 bi-xenons, if you have twin headlamps buy an H7R kit.
Prices varies on where you buy from, regardless of where you purchase them from I'm sure they are all made in china anyway. Lots of people on here have bought cheap ebay ones and they have been fine, if they are aligned properly you won't get flashed or pulled and should get past an MOT ok.

As kidinspace said:
If you have single headlights you need a Bi-xenon H4 kit.
If you have twin headlights get a H7R kit and make sure you fit some really good main beam H3`s like OSRAM nightbreakers or PHILIPS extreme.

Colour temperature:
6000k (and above) is a bit max power... or in other words :w4nk:.
This colour does reflect road signs better at a distance but does`nt produce as much useable light on the road as 4300k or 5000k; Also this colour is poor in anything other than perfect weather conditions. Lower temperatures penetrate rain and fog much better.

If you want hid`s I recommend 5000k - The colour is noticably different from your standard halogens and give more light - this is the whole idea right?

I believe you get what you pay for, as said some people have nothing bad to say about cheap kits from the china... but some do.

Hey Guys,

Thanks for your feedback, I think I will probably go for some 5000K ones, i'm just a little apprehensive with regards to alignment and passing the MOT.

Alignment is easy...
That looks fine for now but you can do it yourself:

Take a 6mm allen key to the vertical adjuster:

It will have 1% marked on the top of your headlight, this means the light should drop at a rate of 1 percent.

To achieve this, put your lights to 0 and park 5 metres in front of your garage, then measure from the ground up to your bulb, (say 60cm).
Then adjust your lights down so that the top of the beam is 5cm (1% of 5 metres) LOWER than the height you measured (so the top of the beam should now be 55cm).

It will work at any distance from the wall if you don`t have 5 metres of space:
If you park 3 metres away, then the top of the beam should be 3cm (1% of 3m) lower than the height of your bulb (if 60cm... then 57cm).

Hope that makes sense.

measure the ground to your bulb height, then AT THE DOOR, the TOP of the beam should be this minus 1% OF THE DISTANCE TO THE DOOR.

That looks familiar! :cheeky:

How did you quote from a different thread?

Ok, this may be a stupid question but how do you tell if your headlights are single or twin?

I am almost definite that they are double, but I want to check first!
