Hi

Have a 1996 Seat ibiza and its not starting,i have two questions....

How can i test the ignition coil with a multimeter?
Is it possible to flash the fault codes on the dash?

Thanks for your help

you'll need a reader for fault codes, something like Vag-com is best

Coil itself carries the amplifier below it so you will need to open the cover under the coil lead to check the coil itself specifically

wiring plug (3 wire) with ignition on will show battery voltage across both outside terminals (1 & 3) -ve & +12v

wiring plug (3 wire) terminals 2 & 3 will flash an led test light on cranking briefly

2 low tension terminals (under small cover) resistance = 0.5-0.7 ohms

2 low tension connectors (under cover ) will flash an led test light on brief cranking

high tension (where lead fits on) & one low tension (under cover) = 3000-4000 ohms

bear in mind there is 2 types of coil + amp one has the units fixed together and the other they come serperate so don't just grab the cheapest one until you check first what type ya got

Thanks a lot,will give that a go.

Do they use a standard obd connector or what?

the two main things i want to check out are the coil and distributor/hall sensor, any info you have for testing those would be great,i will be getting a code read done too.

connector is a standard obd ye - take the drivers side glovebox out and look to the left just inside the hole - more or less looks straight at the side of ya left knee if it helps

coil is more common than i car to mention - after 4 yrs of luck mine went only 2 weeks ago- very annoying

what symptoms have you got with the car ? no firing? checked fuel etc ?

Had a quick look a few weeks ago,it wasn't getting spark, can't remember about fuel  but plugs seemed dry as far as i can remember.
Not sure what would stop spark and fuel, don't think it has immobiliser :(
It turns over ok,just doesn't start up.
