Hi,

I have a 54reg 1.4 ibiza se edition and all of a sudden, everthing is going on.

In the last year the following things have happened:

  • Brake sensor broke
  • Front Lambda sensor broke
  • The volume dial on the alana radio broke
  • The glove compartment lid snapped off
  • The Hinges for the seats are starting to go (really tough to lift them now)
I try and take great care of my car but now I am wandering after 4.5 years of owning it, if this is a sign of things to come and what would people recommend I should do.

I am tempted to to go to Seat and get a Leon for part trade in, maybe an automatic edition as the wife hates the gearbox on manual Seat cars.

That said, does anyone know much it would cost for a new radio and glove box lid and where i should go for this?

Apologies for the long rant, I hope anyone can give me some info or just a good opinion. Thanks!

It sounds like you are in the same position as me. I've owned my TDI Sport 5.5 years since new and it has been exemplary in reliability until this year when all the parts that are destined to wear out seem to have done so at the same time. I did the same thing looking at part exing my car for a younger model but then I sat back and thought I know the exact history of my Ibiza and I've recently invested quite a bit of money in it which I would lose straight away.
I sat in the car on Saturday and realised just how well built and solid it is. Sure it is making a few odd 'mechanical' noises now but it just feels as solid as a rock.
If you aren't bored of it hang on to it and enjoy it I say!

Lambda probe - was it the first one, the most expensive one - been there done that (BBY engine in a Polo)
Radio problem - maybe try good old ebay for someone's cast-off when upgrading - or get a price for trading the radio in against a re-furbished one at Seast dealer.
Glove box lid - get price and if okay buy at Seat dealer.
Other things - TCA rear bushes - have you not had to change them yet, must be coming up soon - but get VAG indie to replace with Cupra solid ones.

thanks for the advice - i do love my Seat, it has been solid for so many years, I think it just needs a bit of TLC!

Have you searched this forum wrt the radio problem, the other Seat forum seems to have someone asking questions about what happens next when the volume knob breaks off! I can't believe that Seat do not supply exchange re-furbed units or advise where to get it fixed.

I suggest an aftermarket headunit, as you should get far better quality than the standard one at the same price, if not cheaper, than a new one from seat.

For the glovebox lid, one should be about £20 from seat id have thought. You could always try a breakers yard if your not too fused about having one in pristine condition.
