Recently got an Ibiza FR tdi and have had it remapped. Now the car is pretty
damn fast. Certainly faster than my previously owned 306 167bhp Rallye!
However, my wife owns an 06 Altea tdi Reference Sport. We tend to swap cars occasionally for our commutes to work. Driving the Altea this morning, I could not help thinking that, with both chassis in standard trim, the Altea handles better than the FR.
Is this my imagination, or does anyone else have similar experience?

search :D loads and loads on this subject ;)

coilovers
spacers
strut braces
anti roll bars
bushes

loads you can do

Altea has better chassis - independent rear suspension from new golf.

Ibiza has solid rear axle from a horse and cart, mine is good though :D

Aceman (Ian) on here used to have a Mk4 Ibiza TDI Sport, and now has an Altea TDI Sport, I think he says the same - the Altea handles pretty well (especially considering it's heavier and noticeably taller than the Ibiza).

.........................But oh boy, is the Ibiza faster than the Altea!.................well it is putting out
65bhp more and god knows how much more torque!

If the next Ibiza FR and cupra dont get multipoint/multilink/independent rear suspension then Im afraid Im gonna have to buy a audi TT or Audi S1.

Everyone, save your hard earned and just buy a MK2 Leon! They have the looks, some have the performance and all of them handle better than the MK4 Beezer (They have the fancy suspension from the latest Golf).

You'll need a lot of your hard earned tho, as FR/Cupra variants are quite expensive, so I had to settle for the Ibiza - But, if you can afford them, they are worth every penny!

I can also confirm that the Leon II is a great drive! My dad has one and it handles like it's on rails, I tell ya! The steering also is superb, not rubbery like the Golf! (driven a Golf 2.0 GT TDI & dads Leon 2.0 TDI and they were classes apart) plus the Leon looks so sexy with Xenon headlights and those LED rear lights, wow

havent driven a mk2 actually so cant comment on that :( they look alot more manly tho than ythe mk1 as they are a girls car imo (exception for the hardtop)

Yeah I think the MK1 TT was very nice looking but a bit girly blouse.

I have an Altea 1.9 TDI and the girlfriend has an Ibiza 1.2s, so know what each drives like.

The ride in the Altea is very good with really positive and loads of feedback when you need it. Trim is fab: Climate, cruise, TPMS, traction control, computer, alloys, and fogs. All this for £10.5k aint bad IMO. Golf mkv would have cost loads more than that!

Ibiza is a bit harsh and feels like it'll let go if you push too hard (if you can in a 1.2!!) I could stiffen the steering in VAG-com but she wont let me:(

I've driven a Lean mk 2 as a loan car and it was very similar, perhaps a bit better as is more of a sports shape and lower centre of gravity.

Cheers
