my mum has a mk1 leon 1.4 and every time she starts it up the immobiliser light comes on and the engine cuts back out, the stealers say it needs new key and reciver, obviously, anyone here had this problem? how did you get it sorted?

That is the normal immobiliser action indicating that the car does not recognise the immobiliser chip in the key. It thinks it has been stolen, and won't go.

Do you only have one key? If not does it happen with both keys? Could be a reading coil fault, immobiliser module fault or ECU. Only a dealer can diagnose and fix, as the keys and ECU will have to be registered with the immobiliser. You will need to provide proof of ownership before they will do this (obviously).

Immobiliser prob

Hi, my experience with the Seat dealership is not a good one at all, i had the same problem with my 1.8T leon and the dealer had absolutely no idea how to fix or diagnose the problem, they cost me over £1000 trying to fix it, in the end i went spoke to a guy who lives in Conisbrough who has his own business who diagnosed it immediately, basically its either you need a new key, a new ignition coil reader or a new dash pod (as in my case)

Do you live anywhere near Yorkshire? If so i could give you this guys details and he'll sort you out if you haven't fixed it already.
