How many people have these just incase?
Now halon is banned i assume everybody uses the powder instead and if so what size did you use? 500g, 1kg, 2kg?
Where have you located them? i think i may mount the frame in the boot
Anyone had one go off in the car due to excessive temperature or faulty can (my main worry)?
Has anyone actually used one on an engine as i have heard the powder can eat away at the insulation on the electrical wiring
Any other feedback?

I have one in my boot, 1kg I believe. It's strapped to the rubber hoop thing at the front of the boot(hard to describe it....). Better safe than sorry I guess :)

Kept in the boot, it's in a cooler area and out of direct sunlight. No issues so far.

Chris, if you were in the drivers seat, could you get to it easily? The way I see it is these extinguishers are very unlikely to put a car fire out once they get started, however if they give you a few extra seconds to get out then they are worth it.

My old Golf had a strap bolted to the bottom of the passenger seat to accept one, although there was never one there. I'd have preferred to watch it burn and collect on the insurance!

Don't worry about temperatures, the powder one I have in the garage is rated to about 200 degrees. They are meant to be used in hot situations after all.

I was reading an article about a car championship, the 750MC I think it was. One of their pre-requisites is a plumbed in fire extinguisher, which I guess it was is mentioned above. I can't remember if it was for the engine bay or the passenger area (or both).

Not really looking into a fully plumbed in system just a point and shoot
I have seen quite a few oil line fires on turbo'd cars on the web and for the sake of 15 quid its worth it
I am currently looking at a 2kg version

MSA rules state that all race cars should have a fire extinguisher! Mine has to be plumbed in and with pull cords on the inside and outside. And the nozzles are pointed at my feet and into the engine bay (preferably towards the fuel lines). Would it provide that much protection? probably not but it might give me an extra 5/10 secs to get out!

Powder will damage electrical wires and also will give you a dodgy stomach when you take a few breaths of it in, which you will if you set it off lol.

As you've said better than nothing tho!

It is not a competition race car so no specific rules apply and i dont think a fully plumbed in system is practical in a fully interiored car but better than nothing as you said
