I haven't been on here in a while but I'm stumped this time

So yesterday got into the car turned the ignition on and the dash was dead, no lights at all and the MFD was off. Radio worked as did interior lights, engine would start briefly before the immobiliser killed it.

fortunately was at home so checked the battery, fuses and relays etc. all was good. Plugged in VCDS, came up with a few codes saying no response from the instrument panel. Checked on elsawin and google for info and came to the conclusion the panel needed to come out so I can check whether it is getting power or if it is the panel itself.

Here is the strange bit, went out today with the intention of taking the panel out, opened the drivers door and the MFD lit up with the time as it usually does and the car started fine  trip computer and time had been reset but it all worked as normal, leading me back to it not getting power for some reason.

I am now thinking it is a dodgy connection to the panel? Anyone got any other ideas before I tear it apart?

My rev counter refused to work the other day worked first thing then packed up then worked again seemed the car was having a brain fart maybe yours was too

Id keep an eye on it before ripping the car apart

If your clocks are dead, I have a working set removed from an 07 when I put highline clocks in.

Had exact same problem a month ago when I left a VAGCOM bluetooth device connected. Recharging the battery has worked so far fingers crossed. Had break down company come take a look who was none the wiser. I'm guessing the dash needs a high enough voltage to disable the immobiliser. Car batteries last around 5 years if yours is knocking on a bit?

The battery is fine, voltage was 12.4v when it happened and there was enough juice there to start the car before the immobiliser kicked in

Everything has been working fine since it happened, still worried that it will happen again but no idea why it happened in the first place
